There is a lot of good FREE personal finance info on the net - just search around (look up "personal finance" "getting out of debt" "emergency fund", etc.).

Some books:

You should be able to get these at your local library (i.e. so you don't have to pay for them )

A good website:

That is more about running your own business, motivation for doing so, etc... For general money management, such as paying down debt, what is a mortgage, etc -- try one of the For Dummies or Idiot's Guide books on Personal Finances. That would be a great start.

If you meant to say stock investing, try the articles at Investopedia as a starter course: http://www.investopedia.com/university/?viewed=1

Charles Schwab put out a very good, easy to read introductory book.
Walks you through the basics and then gives pretty sound advice (assessing your risk tolerance, percentage of stocks vs bonds, etc.)
I think it is "Charles Schwab-New guide to financial independence"

I just picked up The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It's excellent! He also wrote a couple books called Financial Peace. I highly recommend his stuff!

RonJon:

You have received good suggestions. I often will go to a bookstore, buy a cup of coffee and "skim" four or five books of the topic I'm interested in and then buy one of the books.

#1 Rule before you buy books: Cut expenses, save money. A dollar saved much more powerful than any advice you will receive. If you cannot save you cannot invest. To replace one saved dollar you would have to earn $1.35 plus depending on your income and the state in which you live.

Your Money or Your Life is a great book; however, it's most important lesson isn't how to save or budget money. The book's most important lesson is how to align your spending with your desires, values, and interests (i.e. what is important to you) while weaning yourself off of unfocused consumerism. This change in attitude and perception will have an incredibly powerful effect. Tips and tricks on how to budget/save money without addressing any underlying cause is like, when you are sick, treating symptoms and not the disease.
