Step by step guide for PSI encrypted instant messaging

Secure encryption communication service can be a good extension for any bodybuilding board.
Certain kind of talks are required to be conducted via secure communication, exactly same kind of talks now days most board owners don’t like to see … discussed openly on their boards.

Solution can be in use of free jabber server for instant messaging, with free GNuPG encryption.

Here is step by step guide, how to start such communications.

How to start secure instant messaging on jabber server using PSI client and GnuPG.

Here is illustrated guide.

First, you have downloaded PSI from https://psi-im.org/download and installed it,
Now, you need to register account on jabber server, there are many free servers, I’m using aszlig.net, so this server will be used as example.

Make sure to mark Register new account.

Enter server name : aszlig.net and click next, registration will starts, if your internet connection is OK.

Enter name and password, which you want to use here, if you will use the same name as your board name, then it will be easy for others to find you.

and click NEXT

Click OK

You will see your settings screen. Click SAVE you can edit it later.

Click OK and enter some information, then click publish.

Now you on line and it already encrypted SSL conection, but you still see it as it is, just amazing what all those modern techs can do. But, is it enough for us, of course not.

Now we have to fix our GnuPGP encryption with PSI

Download GnuPG :
https://www.gpg4win.org/

Install it and create key pair export public key into text file, you can give it any one.

Advanced level users note:
- best place to keep your private key on smart card in your wallet.

Now you need to add some friends on your list, why not to start with me.
Open PSI click General > add contact, type your contact jabber ID: [email protected], click Add.

Then you will see : Added researchem to your roster. Roster it is some thing like contact list.

OK, now we have account and we have our friend on our list, also we have created PGP key pair.
Now , we are going to assign our key to our account.

Click on PSI General > Account set up > Modify and open tab Details.

Click select key. Select your key and click Save. Now each time you will connect to server, you will be asked to type your pass phrase.


Now you have to give your public key to your friends and they will provide you their public keys, so you can write each other encrypted.
Now you almost done, you have gotten public key from your friend you have to import it to your key manager
The key can be sent as file or as plain text, if it is like text, copy it, go to your key manager, do right click and import it.
Now you can assign imported key to your friend.

In chat window click on lock icon and it will become yellow color, that mean encryption is enabled

Type, Hi

And you will see:
