Computer safety ?

So with my new job/life, I want to play things extra safe. I want to ditch my computer but im thinking of 2 things, so which is better.

1.) have a new hardrive installed

2.) sell labtop and buy a new one

So, basically I dont want anything on my labtop. I dont even want anyone to be able to see that i've signed in with my screen name. All forum/sales will be done from a library computer for now on. So which is the better of the 2? B/c I dont wanna go installing all that safety stuff on my computer b/c I know nothing about it and will never be using my personal computer for anything but internet surfing.

well bro there are programs that are "supposed" to totally wipe your hard drive clean. OR you can purchase a new hard drive and set the old one up on a stand and blow the shit out of it with a .45

hmmmmmm i wonder if there is a program which really truely wipes the hardrive out. I wonder if it costs more than the hardrive, b/c they are only around 150$

you can just reinstall windows with a full format; that will erase everything. that way you don't have to buy a new hd.

Mate I agree with the above. Buy a new hardrive which are quite cheap considering your safety and privacy, and and the old one .... well , like the witness that saw to much. Sleeping with the fishes.

digital data is represented in 0s and 1s. straight 0s is no data, various combinations of 0s and 1s is data. formatting the drive will write 0s to it. NO DATA.

buy a new hd if it makes you feel better, or back up what you need to keep and reinstall windows. you can even download an executable from the hd manufacuturer that will create a bootable floppy you can use to "low level" format the drive if you want, but you will be fine with a reinstall of windows where you select the "full format" option.

oh shit I didnt know they were that cheap. the "programs" are around $90 but I would pay for a new hd to be sure too. I should get a new one too but I wont cuz im a good boy and ive never done anything wrong

buy a new hard drive, if you format your old hard drive the govt can still recover your files

Whomever wants to get rid of hard drives of over 100gigs, I will take them and pay for shipping. I use hard drives on my hard drive farm/server.
I will zero write them 3 times, then completely overwrite them with games, appz, and porn.

Drives me nuts to hear guys on this forum destroy perfectly good hard drives.

Re-install Windows. Download Eraser 5.8 and DoD wipe free disk space, and you are done.
