There was an upgrade program that came with everything together, that I was not aware of that full package and it offered discount pricing for XPS 710 owners and free to XPS 700 owners. Unfortunately, it ended in October '07. This upgrade will put you in the nVidia 680i chipset, which is much more stable and has the ptoential to be much faster.
Call Dell spare parts division and order the following which are the same parts that were in the full package. Prices and part numbers are listed as:
1. XPS 720 Motherboard - GT661 - $349
2. Rear I/O panel - XU556 - $11
3. Front I/O panel - XU567 - $19
4. Front I/O cable for sound - GR709 - $11
5. Front I/O motherboard cable - TM476 - $13
Optional, is a front I/O sticker which no one should even need as long as you remove the old front I/O panel safely. I have not had to order one of these yet. Note, Dell does not normally have this part in stock:
6. Front I/O label - WJ206 - $12
Also optional, because after talking with a Dell representative that knows the original kit fairly well, a Sound Card I/O cable is not needed because the part number hasn't changed in years. He had no idea why it was included in the original kit:
7. Front I/O cable for USB/1394 - MK376
Grand total is $403, and will take a normal numbnut about 25-30 minutes to install. Still not a bad price considering the performance abilties, and just the cost of an aftermarket high quality 680i chipset motherboard. You may be able to get the motherboard from outside venders or ebay then purchase the other parts through Dell. For more info about the original upgrade kit:
