PGP Encrytion Email.

Im trying to understand how to use this, Ive received many emails from diff people with begin pgp message etc etc at the top of email, This is all well above and beyond my understanding.

Id like to be able to encrypt my emails, I understand that the receiver will need to have my key to read my message. but I have a few questions.

How can I read these messages that people have sent me as Im not decrypting them?

What email account will I need to get to be able to do all this, preferably one I dont have to pay for? And if this is not possible doesnt paying for an email account link the buyers details to an email anyway?

I hope this all makes sense.

I made this back when Cyber-rights was shown to not be trustworthy. Actually, I never trusted them, as you are giving them your password when you log in.

I guess I need to get around to doing a GnuGP version too. There's even a way of making GnuGP work with Yahoo or many other e-mails to make it work automatic like Cyber-rights does. But it's tricky and most people won't be able to do it. It's easier to just do the old copy and pasting of Cypher-text with PGP or GnuGP. Just remember to avoid the newer versions of PGP that no longer have open source. GnuGP is open source and the older versions of PGP are open source. One of which I have listed on my site.

Why not just use something like safe-mail.net? Is that not secure enough?

safe-mail to safe-mail yes, if you do not have a paid account or not using a proxy your IP will show in the email header.

Can you recommend a good, cheap proxy? If you know of a free one that would be ideal.

Or would the encryption described in this thread be easier and less expensive that using a proxy?

a few years ago, during gear grinder(?) hushmail did indeed turn over emails to the feds. You figure hushmail holds the keys to decrypting your messages SO really your message is only encrypted as it travels across the web. i am sure that hushmail has the ability to full decrypt your message.

I just went to hidemyass to try & open an encrypted account at safe-mail, but when I tried to open the new account, theere was a message saying that I could speak plain HTML to their system, so I don't know what to do about that.

I then tried using hidemyass to open a hushmail account, but that didn't work either. I was able to open the account, but I couldn't even open the standard greeting message they give all new users. When I tried to open it, a window popped open saying that the page could not be displayed. I then tried composing a new E-mail there & the same thing happened.

It looks like proxy servers don't get along with encrypted E-mail servers...

I don't mind paying someone money to get properly secure & anonymous encrypted communications, but I don't know who offers something user friendly & effective?...
