HELP! iBook crashed

So I decide Sunday is the day to update my operating system, I bought a new external hard drive and backed up everything. Then I inserted the new OS CD, clicked on the install tool... the computer goes down. I restarted it. Nothing but a black & gray screen with computer script over a message that reads "You need to restart your computer. Hold down power button for several seconds or press restart". I've tried several times to restart and I get the same message. I've tried restarting holding the "C" key and still same message. The CD will not eject. Nothing... anybody got any idea what I should do next.

It's and iBook running OS Panther (10.3.9).

You know you are in BIG TROUBLE when the last line of the computer script reads: "panic: We are hanging here..."

CD/DVD drives always...at least in the PC world.. have a little pin hole on the front of the tray.. you can stick a paper clip, or something along the lines of that into that pin hole.. there is a tray release mechanism that allows the tray to open without power to the system...
kind of like a push button door lock with the hole on the other side that you can pop open..
