DivX - Did Anyone Know?

Was there anyone aware that is you download the DivX codec as a free pulgin for read only that you can download "Dr. DivX" and use that read codec to create DivX movies with out buying the Pro (write) version of the codec? Just and FYI

PS every other compressor besides Dr DivX will show no video/and/or/audio, even VDub.

lately i've been using the free legal video converters from portableapps.com.
If you weren't aware of it, it's a pretty handy tech tool that allows you to run pretty much any app you can get from them, (or if you are handy enough to figure out how to make your own) all from a mem stick on any machine without any installs.

I like vdub too, but unless you get crafty (or just buy it) you cant see the vid.
vdub is handy for capping vid too if you are into that, set your template and go, then trim out commercial segments and merge, very handy proggie.

yes but did you purchase the pro version of the real codec or did you bootleg it?

You can dl lots of vdub mods with bootleg codecs and make it work just fine, but that is not legal.

If you want to do it legally, you must purchase the real divx pro codec to use with your apps is what Kaiser is saying, and he found a way to do it legal and free which in the tech world is pretty important.

I believe XviD is free Moo. It's DivX spelled backwards and was known as the open source version. Quite stable, just not as many bells an whistles. DivX tends to be a little ahead on technology as they are getting paid. Yes, you got it right though buddy, I was stating that Dr DivX from the company themselves allows you to compress a movie down successfully and the loophole is that you dont have to purchase the pro version. Their loophole, their problem. Also, of note, not all XviD movies will play in DivX certified players. for people who do not know, a divX player is much like a DVD or BluRay player for your TV. Standalone and most can use a memory stick.

It is. I'm no supreme dubber or anything. I just try to shrink porn so I don't run out of hard drive(s) space.

right Kaiser, im aware of divx, i use it often and yes it is free and comes with most encoding software as an option too.

I know quite a bit on video/audio encoding. I was involved with developing the standards of the dvd to dvdr ripping scene back in the day, before all of the one click cheat programs were made. I love tearing shit down to it's bare bones and rebuilding it

ps3 is a divx player. it will play any video file to my knowledge. its well worth it.

You could download a torrent of the pro version with a serial key also if you weren't against that sort of thing
