Having been forced to go to a catholic school at such a young age, I get extremely aggressive towards people who feel the need to push their religion onto me. It's to the point where I almost feel threatened, hence my aggression. I'm usually pretty open-minded, but when some holyroller opens up on me with some cult BS about being saved, I wanna deliver a well-placed punch right to his mouth to make a believer out of HIM. Has anyone here been hemmed up by biblethumper before?

I'm stationed in Iraq right now, and these biblethumpers are almost on the same level as insurgents and extremists, just less violent. I find it ironic to look at how many major wars were started because of religion...

Well, you are right, religions started the wars, not God. There is alot of religions out there who try to control you or tell you what to do. Your so called bible thumpers are over there, to comfort people in the face of death, and give hope. People are coming back from these wars very depressed or sucidal. This might not be you, but it is the case of some. If you don't want to hear it, I believe that is your option and they should respect that. That is why young men like you are fighting these wars, to keep are freedoms and have choices. I respect that in you and your service to are country.

In any religion there are always 2 schools of thought. The proselytizers, and those that lead by example. I respond much better to the latter whether it's religion, training advice, financial matters, etc.

If you have something great going on, a sense of peace/karmic/christian, whatever, I'll notice. And I'll approach you and ask for advice. It rings true in training and other areas like business also. If I look at someone and want to emulate their success or well-being I'll approach them. If you have a great product/belief system/training regimen, there is little reason to try and sell it, its benefits are self evident.

You're in an enviroment with a lot of young guys who are facing differing degrees of imminent danger, some will stay annoying, but many will mature and try to lead by example rather than shove it down your throat.

New converts to any religion or philosophy often proselytize with great vigor and little deep understanding, and the net result is turning people off because they don't have the life experience and maturity to speak with any authority.

I've always taken umbrage with the LDS and Mormon groups, no offense to those of that faith, because they send 18 year old kids to my door at 8am on Saturday morning to talk to me about life. I try to be patient as they are generally very polite kids, but I basically tell them nicely to gtfo and come back and talk about life when you grow up.

hey thanks for all the support for our troops guys. I agree, most cannot speak with authority due to lack of experience and maturity. This is what really grinds my gears. It's almost like they are being controlled by some cult and reciting numerous passages and excerpts from the bible while giving me the "1000 yard stare".
