I was thinking if I ate similar foods to what yall do in the offseason (i need variety) then maybe I'd look a fraction as good as you do in the off season. Its time to kick the McDonalds habit. I've never had to cook before but what the hell, its time to learn. I saw that theres a receipes forum but I thought I'd check with you all first. I'm looking to trim up and not gain any quitting smoking weight. Its my goal to get to wear a swim suit again..and not cry.
TIA!

Hngrygrl, I can give you some advice here. As you know I'm no lady, although some may argue this point........LOL! The foods you need to focus on are Proteins and carbs with low fat. I know I can hear the moans from the crowds about the carbs, guess what, carbs are not the enemy, too many calories are. You can cut calories from fats and carbs a bit and the end result is a calorie restricted diet. Or Increase activity, training and cardio and Change your diet around so you are eating clean healthy calories. Fats have just a little over 9 cals per gram and proteins and carbs 4 cals per gram. Ok so we look at Micky D's. Loadeds with fats, look at all fried foods, loaded with fats. You could cut these out of your eating and significantly reduce your overall calorie intake. Net result is weight loss. N ow the better way is to get busy in the kitchen and Nosmas can help here too! Start looking through your fridge and pantry. Get rid of saturated fats and all high fat content foods. Then zero in on high suger foods, these are what we call empty calories. They will provide the body with an easy convienient source of energy and your body will not utilize fats when there is a great presence of suger in your blood stream. Once the sugar wears off the body willsend signals (cravings) for more suger. It is the complex carbs you want in your system, Potatoes, rice pasta that will provide sustained energy release for you to use. Frequent smaller meals will provide the body with nutrtion all day long. It will then realize there is no need to store energy (fats). 5 smaller healthy meals a day will do the job. Protein is your closest ally in the fight against fat. it serves two purposes. The first is aminos for repair and recovery after exercise and the second it is slightly thermogenic. It will produce a slight rise in core temp while being digested, meaning the body actually burns calories to use protein. It spare any muscle wasteing while dieting and keep your resting metabolic rate high. Weight training produces massive calorie expenditure if done heavy and intensly enough. It also encourages the growth and expansion of the muscle cells, thus evoking an even greater demand for calories. Then your resting metabolic rate will go up even higher. Fats have a very real place in your diet, but they need to be the right ones. Monosaturated and Omegas are your best choices. They are responsiblre for the rgulation of cholesterol in us and are neccessary for the formation of some sex hormones. They help to regualate other body functions as well as a reliable stable source of energy. Start reading your food labels when you shop and put down the ones with more than 10% fats. keep your protein high and carbs medium. This should result in a happier healthier and sexier Hngrygrl! Go for it and just quit girl! The smokes and Micky D's will kill you!!

Well unfortunately I ate everything but the house and now I feel like a beached whale. :( I was going through some very stressful things, and I know that's no excuse, but that's what happened. Now I'm trying to loose the weight I put on, so I can fit back into my swimsuit too. Oldfella pretty much covered it in his post. The one thing I have noticed when I starting eating all the junky crap I also feel like crap. I feel much better when I stay on a clean diet. I guess the old saying is true... you are what you eat.

Off season I usually try to keep my ratios at 30% protein / 50% carbs /20% fat. I like to keep it pretty clean adding maybe one serving of fruit and dairy in daily. When I was a beginner my mistake was keeping my fat too low. Now I know... muscles need good fats to grow.

Oldfella, great post... :)
