It's been a tough couple of years. We all are feeling the stress from the economy, overload at work and life in general. Our responsibilities have grown. We have jobs, kids and no time for ourselves. It's really easy to find comfort in food. We have a bad day, so we eat some ice cream because it makes us feel better. We treat ourselves with dessert because we landed that important account. Maybe we ran late and skipped breakfast and found the donuts a coworker brought to work. It's really easy to fall into the comfort food rut. It becomes a habit before you know it.
There are better ways to deal with the stress. If you feeling the stress come on, make a note first even if it is only a mental note. Figuring out what sends you running to the vending machine or fridge is the first step to taking control of your bad eating habits. What triggers you to eat? By identifying what triggers you allows you to take control break the cycle.
Finished paying off the credit card. It's ok to celebrate. Just don't make food part of the celebration. Find other ways to reward yourself. There are lots of things you can do like scheduling a massage, take a day off, buy a new outfit, pedicure or manicure, take a friend/spouse to the movies, etc. If you do treat yourself with food keep it limited to your cheat day/meal. Don't make it habit. The next time you treat yourself do something different that doesn't have anything to do with food.
Skipping breakfast or any meal is never a good thing. Plan and be organize. If you can see that the week is going to be a hectic one, go ahead and make your meals ahead of time. Use plastic divider plates. They have pre-measured sections for food. You can put your meals in the plates and freeze them. Take them out of the freezer when you don't have time to cook. Simple. Convenient.
That's just a few tips I've learned over the years.
