Diesel (Bullmastiff) and his skin issue...

Hey board.

I have a 2 year old bullmastiff named Diesel. He is a very healthy dog but each summer he gets horrible hot spots. They look like bumps on his neck and back. He usually scratches them and breaks them open. I live in South Florida so my vet says its due to the heat and humidity. I have tried different soaps, different frequencies and everything. He is on Eukanuba pro performance food. Occasionally, I will add an egg or some steak leftovers from my meals.

I have read about a product that a member on here swears by. Do you think this will help alleviate the skin issue on Diesel?

Thank you very much. Here are the pics.

hey man i feel your pain. my blue pitbull has the same issue. my vet swears its a contact skin allergy so i took her to a specialist. he says she allergic to about a dozen things including the outside air. so anyway, long story short, shes on pulse therapy which includes:

10 days straight of cephalexon(spelling could be wrong, sorry) 2xday
on same days prednisone 1xday.

off for 10 to 20 days, depending on condition. so far its been about a year and she looks great. try it, you'll be surprised

Thanks. I'm taking him in this week and mentioning that. Its werid, they start out as bumps, like dry raised scabs. If I don't throw a shirt on Diesel, or put a bandana around his neck as soon as I find one, he will tear his skin off. Poor guy.

My dog had the exact same thing. I put her on dinovite and it improved almost 100% but not totally (she still had some redness...the swelling and raised bumps went away). Got her on some prednisilone (20mg) eod (like another member said) and she was completely clear in a few days. It gets very hot here in AL. too. Good luck.

My Rocky had the same problem a couple times a year. Erythromycin used to clear it up very quickly.

For my dog, a course of cephalexine to start and then a regiment of Temaril-P. The Temaril-P is prednisone and an antihistimine. She uses Temaril-P daily now.

My dog had the same thing for the last 30% of his life. I put him down 2yrs ago because of skin cancer. Had him on cephalexin and prednisone all the time. It seemed he would get a skin infection every time he got his Advantage(flea killer). I'm curious if all your dogs with this similar condition, do you have them on advantage or some other flea killer poison crap?

i use frontline on all 3 of my pits. in baltimore i dont need it in the winter. but my blue female still gets those hives/bumps year round. the cephalexine and prednisone seems to work so far. its been 2 years on the pulse therapy. but after i cut my grass i dont care what she on, she'll break out for a few days. anti histamines work sometimes for the quick flair ups.

My dog is actually allergic to something in the grass down here in south Florida. I take him out almost daily and we wrestle around in the grass. This is when the flare ups occured. Then he would scratch them and it would open up.

Vet put him on a low dose of anti histamines and it cleared everything up.
