California State BBing Championship

This weekend one of the biggest shows of the year takes place here in Los Angeles.... Non other than the "Cal" promoted by bodybuildings biggest and best promotor Jon Lindsay( Lindsay promotes about 10 huge shows every year.. including the LA championships, Excalibur and USA). His judges and expiditors are best in the business as his 200 plus competitor shows run on time and smooth as possible.

The Cals...Past winners include.... Shawn Ray, Chris Cormier and Flex Wheeler.

Last year was a great year for myself as I prepared one of the NPCs longest reigning competitors.. also one of the most challenging structurally..

But he nearly pulled off one of the biggest scores of the year.. by placing 2nd in a deep lighht heavyweight class.. only losing to Koreas Young Joo Son...Rob a true California native was a good student and took condition to an all time best.. Also was an all time best placing... 2nd in a 15 plus class is excellent.

Rob Kailany placed 10th at the cal in 07 and came off a 5th placing at the Junior Cal.. This year should even be better for Rob.

I was going to post more but was going to ask him which im sure is cool. He doesnt post on the boards but is a great guy. first started competing when he was 18 , hes 38 now..

Never placed very good due to bad structure.. smallish arms/legs, hernia..nailed his condition pretty darn good..

what else can i do ? i don train him. Just did an 8 week prep for him. He might be heading to the end of his career competing. im the same age and just getting going

Well...in my opinion that's the true challenge of being good at what you do.

When you are taking a guy or girl who has some tough physical challenges and preparing them to stand for comparison to more gifted competitors....that's really an awesome challenge! lol.

The fact that this friend of yours came in ripped and did well says a lot. Pretty cool. Did he ever get that hernia fixed? I had one repaired right above my navel when I was 17.

I notice Dennis Wolf has one as well...why don't these guys get them fixed?

I agree.. And he hasnt gotten it fixed and it looks pretty bad. I would not compete with that.. But i have seen worse.

Structurally....Small limbs with a big torso isnt ideal. But... what can i say... He was clearly the best conditioned in the class and the judges rewarded him.
