Using insulin past expiration date

All literature says that one should not use insulin past the 28 day mark after being opened (but is gtg for 2 years if unopened).

I'm going to assume that this is for sterility reasons. If the top of the vial is kept clean (alcohol pad before each puncture), can the shelf life be extended?

I'm fairly certain that it would be damn near impossible to use 1,000iu of insulin in a 28 day period. For a non-top level pro that is. How does everyone else do it?

i=they say that cuz itys jus FDA regulATIONS. but having used slin from my job in the past multiple times i can say after a while it does down-grade but i didnt notice uit much until a few months went by. Nowe this is jus my experience so take it for wut it is

kinda cheap and easy to get why risk it?
and yes I know two pro's that using 10 to 15iu three times a day so they get close to 1000iu a month!

It was $90 for 1,000iu here, could I find it cheaper elsewhere?

I would'nt risk it, it's cheap and I get it all Walmart.

If he had Humalog you will not get that at wall mart promise ya! And it is around $60-$90
