Did anyone see the contest on espn and espn2 over the last week? Just wanted to see everyone's opinion on it. I know that it was disappointing for the Pudzianowski fans, but I thought it was great to see Phil Pfister take it from him. Awesome!!!!!
nuthinbutapeanut was telling me about it, he said pfister won like the last 4 events over pudz., good for him! i'd hoping to catch the rerun sometime...
Not sure of when it'll be on again, but they usually replay it several times throughout the year. Pfister was the man! It wasn't like Mariusz did that poorly or anything. He got 1st in two events and was second in 3 others. Pfister just dominated and won the last five events in a row.
I woulodn't say he dominated. He HAD to win the last 4 or 5 events to have a shot. He did. But he wasn't blowing Putz out or anything, and in the atlas stone he beat Pudz literally by the fraction of a second (although the results say it was longer, it was because Putz last stone didn't settle in as fast as Pfisters). I honestly believe this win was a fluke by Pfister, much like Janne Virtanen and Vasyl Virastyuk's wins, and expect Pudz to win it again in 07.

Of course, I guess you're a Pudzianowski fan. Yeah I agree it was close, and that he didn't dominate the whole contest, but the way that he performed in the last 5 events was unbelievable. Give the guy some credit. He was at the top of his game for the contest. The last time an American won the contest was back when Bill Kazmaier won in the early 80's. It's kinda cool to see an American win the thing.
I give Phil all the props in the world. He turned it up in the clutch. But I think him winning it is a fluke. He was way behind in the semi finals and it took a huge effort to get into the finals. IMO it was more a case of Mario being a bit off while at the same time Pfister being at his peak. IMO 9 out of 10 times Mario beats Pfister. But like I said, he was the man finishing up. I just don't think he can do it again. If he proves me wrong, then good for him.
