What’s up brothers. I am 19 years old 5’8” weighing 180 pounds. I just dead lifted 405 LBS raw today and I loved it. For my size and age I feel that I am strong. I would like to see if I can compete with others but I really don’t know what I would be up against. I would love to start strength athletics please give me some feedback.

thats a pretty good pull, are you natural?

ive pulled 495 for 6 reps at a bodyweight of 185lbs and 19y/o and thats NOTHING compared to a lot of guys here...

You won't know what you are up against until you enter a meet. It all depends on what organization you decide to lift with. Whether it is drug free or not, raw, etc, etc. I would suggest either the APF or IPA. Your first step is to complete and experience your first couple of meets. Use them as learning experiences. They can be long days. Then after that worry about placing first in your class

I would go for it............if nothing else it will be a good experence. I done my first power lifting meet at 16 and broke the under 21s record in the dead lift in the country were I live. Witch still stands today 14 years later:) . I pulled 418. Whatever you do give it 100% best of luck buddy.

Thank you for your guidance. I’m natural and I know that I can improve my dead lift, my back and legs build fast. I understand to join some meets and get confident and aware of my skills. One question I have is it typical to diet down for weight classes or compete at a natural weight?

When I was competing I would train at about 255/ 260 then drop weight and weigh in at 242. After weigh ins I would eat, rehydrate, and relax in my hotel room and get mentally ready to lift the next day. I was usually able to gain back about 7lbs or so.

For starting out keep things as simple as possible - minimize the variables like messing with your bodyweight, "fancy" gear, etc...Pick a meet & just go do it!
You'll probably be amazed at the level of support & help you will recieve if you let others know it's your first go at it.
