hey, just got a quick ? for you. I stall out on military presses today.
I could not get the full 5x5. Ive been training hard for the last 3 months on the 5x5 method.

When I got under the weight for the military press today. The weight full super heavy. It was only 5 lbs more then last workout. Im just wondering.

Is it better to do a week of lighter lifting or just take a week off and allow for a full recovery?

i dont train with a 5x5 but the same thing happened to be today benching. im chalking mine up to my diet being off, i havent had much of an appetite the last week or so. next week im going to go lighter and use higher reps. it seems to me that after a given amount of time progressing 5 lbs a week all of a sudden you just stall for a bit and sometimes even feel alittle weaker. when this happens i do one of 2 things. change my routine and get really strong with the new routine, then go back to my old routine after a month or so, or lighten the weight up for a few weeks then starting at the lighter weight start adding the 5 lbs week by week again. both methods have helped me get past a stalling point. hope this helped, and good luck.

I couldnt be happier with the way the gym went today. It was squat first and I hit a new Pr that was 15 lbs better then my last squat session. All other numbers up aswell. The 9 days off were great. Im fully recoverd and roaring to go again.

in response to ur first question of whether a week off is better than a week of lighter lifting although i know u already took ur break, for future reference, it depends on if u are in fact over trained or are lacking other strength qualities that could hold u back like flexibility and what not, i always prefer to take easy weeks but focus on areas that get neglected and move the body through ranges of motion it should be able to do but is rarely done and just to do all completely different exercises but with low intensity
