lately I hav been hearing the side effects more than the benifits, there is a large lawsuit against the makes of accutane I think Roche makes it, it is said to cause major liver problems that manifest themselves later down the road, along with digestive issues and colon problems, I took it 2 time like 7-8 years ago, and it did work great for eliminating acne, but drys the hell out of your skin and eyes, I think i was doinfg the 20mg daily doses the first time and the 40mg doses the 2nd time i took it, I think it is like a 3 month long treatment. hope this helps.

Accutane is a miracle for me

Ok, I know there will lots of differing opinions on this, but here's my experience.

I had tried tons of stuff- antibiotics, washes/scrubs, mega b-5, but nothing would get rid of big cystic acne on my back/shoulders when I got near test. I took 40 mg of accutane a day for 7 months and it cleared up completely (while on test- many people say don't do that but it worked). I also took lots of LIV52 and some of the Sythetek liver protectant.

I was off 'tane for a half year, started another test cycle, and acne came back. So I went on 20mg a day and all was well again. I did have a blood test during my first cycle and liver was fine- attribute that to liver protectants.

It takes awhile (3 months?) to really work, and 6+ months to approach permanant cure- acne may get worse for first few weeks. If you can take it off-cycle, I'm sure your results will be more permantant than mine. But only use it if you have the really nasty cystic acne- not just for little whiteheads- other things can help that.

I used to use the "real" roaccutane but now it's hard to come by and the liquid stuff from chemone works just as good for me.

Oh, yes, the side effects of dry, cracking lips and nose bleeds will happen, and sun sensitivity was harsh, but better than acne.

lawsuits

just read km's post and yes, there are lawsuits and that is why the real Roach accutane is hard to get, even via a dermatologist. But I believe most lawsuits revolve around a couple of teenagers committing suicide while on it- it has a warning that it may cause suicidal thoughts. Some kid flew a plane into a highrise in Florida and his parents are suing as he was on it. But I think when you are a teenager and have bad acne, it might cause suicidal thoughts too...

Just be careful and don't do things that f*ck with liver (orals, drinking, etc.)- if you need it, it's great.

heres some info on the sides, there are severe bowl probs and depression, I would advise against it, I know people that took it and were just fine but after a year or 2 (after treatment) the bowl probs started manifesting themselves.

I debated using it for awhile, and like everything I use I research it thoroughly
before introducing it to my body. Well, after about a week of reading about
it I decided there is no way in hell that I would use it. Some of the horror
stories, and there were a lot, convinced me that the acne I get on cycle is
more than something I can live with.

Some people have no issues with it and swear its the best thing to happen to
them, but others have complete personality changes, severe and prolonged
depression, and physical symptoms such as the ones km2000 listed. I know
someone who has used it twice and got nothing more than some disgusting
looking chapped lips, so there is a chance that it would only do the same to
you. But there is nothing, no fact or distinguishing piece of data, that
determines which category you will fall into.

If your acne doesn't impact your quality of life in a negative way
I'd say skip it, but if trading your acne for some of the potential
complications is something you can justify, then shit go for it. Either way
I'd say spend some time reading about it beyond what you find on BB forums.
