do you diet instinctively or by a pre-determined daily meal plan.

when you get ready for a show do set up a diet ahead of time outlining what you will be eating that day/week/entire prep or do you just eat instinctively?

what works better for you....

I do a little of both, I always start out with a plan on paper that I have experimented with in the off season... meals cals pro ect...

I belive you have to be able to change things up a bit depending on how your body is reacting to the diet, cardio, weight training, any illness, or personal probs.

it is always good to have a second set of eyes too... your mind will play tricks on you in the weeks leading up to the show( at least mine does)

In past, very meticulous with planning everything out to a T. Now, I realize I can be more instinctive and trust my judgement from how I feel and what I see in the mirror. It is much, much more fun this way and is cool knowing I can somewhat read my body. Much less stress and I am looking forward to the outcome of this easier method this year of competition.

I start my diet early and start eating clean, then I put a meal plan on paper and work to it.. my carb to protein daily intake divided into 6 meals per day. then I out line the foods and amounts I can eat daily and go from there ,

Like said above, you have to adjust as needed as your body responds..

for serious dieting you have to prepare and plan meals and have an outlined regimen.

I go with instinct. But I allow myself tons of time to make adjustments along the way. I have been known to hold a contest diet for a full six months. Now I'm a bit more dogmatic about my contest prep. I take into account my age (fuckin old) and How I look or feel while dieting. I generally do not lose bulk weight, in fact as I diet my weight actually goes up while leaning out. I'm stubborn, where 26weeks of prep will do most peoples' heads in I stick with it. If you can drop bf w/out losing any of your hard earned lean mass then this is how. Longer slower fat loss is best. But for many 26 weeks is a lifetime!!!

That's the only way when you target big performance. And it is not easy at all. Require so much determination and sacrifice.

I have a gameplan in place...but it could change up depending on my conditioning...

yea, thats how i always felt. but its really very hard.

not just the mental thing of eating the same day in day out.... but making sure EVERYTHING is prepared and ready to go all the time.

With my best conditioning I had a strict game plan and stuck to it. I recently went with instincts and instincts will tell you some stupid shit until you start believing it. Will never go down that path again with contest prep anyway. Offseason is a bit of a different story.

That's how I feel. I've spent so much time calculating and making measurements that I really can do it without thinking anymore. Just looking at portions and the mirror is enough now. Although I don't compete, I can get down to 5 or 6% in a month just by adding cardio to my workout routine. That's down from about 9 or 10% when I stay by diet and lifting heavy alone.
