water poison

Yeah, it's called hyponatremia, and the excess fluid causes the salt levels in the blood to drop so severely your brain basically stops working.

yep , if to much water is drank at one time like in this case it causes your brain to basicaly swell and stop like was mentioned before. You can even die from drinking to much water over an extended time , especaily distilled water , it'll throw your electrolytes out of wack and cause heart malfunction.

I think the term used for when the brain swells from water over dose is
rapid onset hydro-sufilus. I think , maybe wrong.

This is actualy not that uncommon but I guess when sombody dies on live radio it make for a little more press

Unfortunately this type of thing has happened to ravers alot in the early milineum....Lots of X, lots of water, lots of dancing and sweating.....bad combination....

that poor chick was just trying to win an wii ....bummer

I read "Ultra Marathon Man-Confessions of an all night runner" by Dean Karnazes
He talks about getting to an aid station where they take in salt covered potatoes wedges to bring their sodium levels up.

i posted something up about this as well. it's very sad

i unintentionally took in too much water one time, something about carrying a gallon jug around just makes you drink more than you normally would.
i definitely felt strange. Water intoxication is definitely real, people die from it fairly regularly (albeit not on the radio with deejays laughing about if anyone has died yet, etc.)

When I was 16 and bored at the food place I worked at me and my friend would have water drinking contests (I know, very cool, I already know you wished you did it :)) with cases of 24 bottles of water. I think I finished a case once, or got close to it, but I was going to the bathroom every 10 min (secret was to drink the case that wasn't in the walk in refridgerator--easier to drink room temp water:D). Now I usually drink 1-2 gallons of water a day and feel fine.

My guess is she died b/c they weren't allowed to go to the bathroom. This is one of those things you hear is possible but don't really believe b/c I know I wouldn't have done the contest with my friend if I had heard about this.

You're correct, but what most people that use X didn't know is that X has the opposite effect of what they're feeling... they are thirsty but X is an anti-diurectic causing the body to retain all the fluid they are drinking bringing the onset of hyponatremia on much quicker with less total fluid than someone that had not taken X.

I just wonder what the lethal amount of water in a said time is?

Different for eveyone based on their own individual sodium and potassium levels.

We can now officially say that water is actually more dangerous than steroids...no kidding. Water drinking related death = 1 vs. steroid taking related death = 0

I can see it now, a special congressional hearing is going to be held and water will soon become a scheduled III drug.

Sorry just needed to vent...
