Western union qn? ( from UK to asia)

hey folks, just a quick western union question. bit confused but think I get it!

im assuming that on the reciver end you get the payment in local currency? Looking at the UK western union stuff I can only send GB pounds.

the exchange rate makes £50.50 or so $100 USD so if I send £52 it should work out a little over.

so basically, I need to send you £52 GB£ which will work out as over $100 US$ on recivers end! confusing but think thats right! theres also about a £14 transfer fee so £66 total charge 'to sender' as it were.

will look into egold next time seems better for fee's etc:

on the off chance, any UK bros know if theres a downloadable 'sending' form, so I can see what I need to fill out. preffer to do it at my local newsagent as there 5 mins away and I can do it all cash.

If you are trying to do the transaction on line you can only go with local currency. If you go to a western union office or agent then you can convert To any currency. Ie lbs sterling to USD.

Your newsagent will have the form you need and all it asks for is the usual info (Name, address etc for you and name of receiver and city they're in). Note: you DO NOT need to provide ID at the time of sending it so long as it's less than £600 or so.

I would advise using your real name and address (it's not ilegal to own gear for personal use in the UK) as when my supplier had problems getting the money picked up (also in asia) I had to go back to my local newsagents to confirm everything and even though I'm in there a couple of times a week and they know me they insisted that I bring some ID with me.

Also WU told me at the time that they can't confirm rates to China so I overpaid by about £1.50 or so to ensure that the dollar amount that needed to be received would be guaranteed at the other end.

I am looking into e-gold - the main issue there is that you have to go and put the money into a cash-egold converters account in the UK (or do a bank transfer) which can be a bit time consuming.

done. the form says GBP but the guy I used phoned, mumbled something about USD and theres a USD ammount on the form.


I used alternate serivce ( cost about £62 to send £52 ) Left it 10+ hours and typed in the MTCN and its saying 'transfer on hold, contact customer assistance.

does that mean theres a problem or are WU just slow to update the website?
