outside what bodybuilders make for winning competitions, which is public knowledge, what kind of money do/can they make with supplement contracts, guest posing, magazine writer etc....... If you know about a particular amatuer or pro but dont want to reveil there name thats fine. Im just interested in what kind of money pro's and amatuers make outside just competitions???? thanks

Some well 1 in particular make around 50k a year doing guest appearances and guess posing. It has recently become very profitable since the fan base is growing.

As far as contracts go, i think it depends on how well they do from year to year. If they win more shows then they can get a pay raise the next year.

wow...that is pretty good just for guest posing. I wonder the rank of that bodybuilder. I imagine(esp the top pros)they make pretty good money on the nutrition contracts as well. And like you said if they a win a contest they get a bonus.

so you ready to try your hand at being a pro now since the pay is so good?

Watching Trey Brewer's video raised my eyebrows a bit. I understand he has a contract with BSN and makes guest appearances... but the kid owns 2 cars, wants a third, and pays for a drug bill that's rather large.

I like the kid and would definitely be friends with him, so I'm not criticizing... but living his life can't be cheap. I know he lives with dad and all, but STILL. I remember working my ASS off making a lot of money while at home. Saving up for a used Chevy Tahoe took a while.

I always thought that unless you did schmoe stuff, you could only make money being a bodybuilder if you were top 10-20. (not counting personal training and what not).

I know a national level super heavy that is making 40,000 a year off his sponsor...but once he receives his pro card (if he does) they will bump him up to $80,000.

not much for the amount of time and money he spends, but it is way better than nothing at all.

My friend's PT was offered a contract by muscletech for 50 grand if he earned his pro card and he's a top level national bber.

...AND they get to do what they love and make some dough. That's gotta be worth a lot.

It does seem like some of them live quite well, so it makes me wonder what else they do for work, owning gyms, supplement lines, book deals etc.

As an example, I think Big A has it right; smart dude, accomplished BB'er and has his fingers in many business pies.

OK guys....get real. Only the top tier guys make a lot of money for the MOST part.

Ofcourse, young, single guys who only need to support themselves can easily do so on a supp contract and magazine deal which is what all the STUDS seem to have. (both a supp and mag contract).
So ofcourse Trey has 2 cars if he isnt a complete IDIOT with his $. As said, I'm sure there is a bonus for turning pro as well.

Trey got offered a rumored 6 figure contract from BSN when he was like 20 or 21 after his Excalibur win. You include a magazine deal and you are ridin high... btw MD just signed him...AGAIN. $

Cutler is a business man, he makes a shit load and will always make a lot of money even when his days are over.

Cutler, Ronnie, Phil, Victor all make a nice penny each guest posing. Im sure Cutler can charge 10k if he wants. You gotta figure Phil and Victor get 3-5k anywhere, anytime..maybe even a bit more. Ronnie said he still charges 5-6k in a radio interview with Palumbo earlier this year.

And I guarantee you after this years Olympia placing, Branch can charge more and will most definitely get a RAISE.

Pro's honestly don't do well at all to be honest..........2 of the guys that I know personally make $ 40 k form their contacts and the other only makes $ 24 k ....it is sad....all the risk to health and freedom for nothing but some attention and a freaky physique ......and to think I wanted it so bad at one point.....most of the guys I know are hustlers.......they are wheeling dealing gear , themselves , women........but something......others are working 12 - 15 hr days doing pt ........a pro body is amazing without a doubt, but the lifestyle behind the bodies aren't ...........other than the top maybe 6 guys on the planet .......none of their lives are any better than yours believe me .......and many are just selling their souls for a chance to be lazy and do what it takes to live the lifestyle ........I could tell you guys some crazy stories , about some names you would know way back when i was in the game that would drop your jaw......but what's the point.......it 's a cult sport .......in the 80s /early 90s they could 've taken the sport mainstream ......but they didn't let it ....the people that run the sport kept it small and cultish for their own reason's [I could go on forever on this topic]......so unfortunately guys will always just be hustlers and their lives after the sport won't be very good at all ..........sad because it didn't have to be like that.

Ask Phil if I am lying .......he knows ......he lived it ......

I know what can be made as well as what I get per month but sadly not enough bodybuilders think outside of the box let alone plan for the future. Trey for example I am sure he is pushing the 150k mark but there is no guarantee that he will continue to make that kind of money if he doesn't make it to the next level. This industry is driven by what is new so if you don't cash in while you are hot you may not have much to show after a few years of riding high.

I wish more of these guys would get financial advice to be sure they are set for the future or at least have enough money and investments to move forward in life when bodybuilding is over. Rolling two or three nice cars and living at home leads me to believe that good financial planning is not in place. He should be living off around 55% of that money and using the rest to plan for his future. Even if bodybuilding keeps going great for him and it is all he ever has to do for money it is a fact that people making low six figures should be living modestly if they want to be able to stop working at a decent age without having to lower their lifestyle.

The Female BBers make even less correct?
Many turn to internet porn to help support their BBer lifestyle.
Peace.

exactly, think about this, a minimum salary at major league baseball is $360,000 and that doesn't include the bonuses if your team advances to the play offs and world series. i don't know how much jay cutler makes but it very possible that the lowest paid major league player makes more $$ on baseball alone than mr olympia makes on bodybuilding. if my kids grew up and tell me he wants to be a pro bodybuilder, i'd smack his head and send him to the baseball camp, lol...

many are just selling their souls for a chance to be lazy and do what it takes to live the lifestyle

Lots of good feedback...... Its obvious that if you are lucky enough to make a living in the sport then you better be smart with the money. Even retired pro's (flex, ray, etc)are making money with supp. contracts. I guess you gotta look at it like a business and know that it can easily fold on you.
