George Farah: "the Keto crap is the trend these days"

I was checking out the new MD this month and this statement stuck with me. As of the last year the "carb wars" have gotten quite old. I used to frequent two other boards that have opposite views of pre contest carbs blah..blah..I know. This is old news, but I find statements like "keto crap" quite silly. George seems like a pretty smart guy and I find it funny that he has this anti keto stance now that he has a job at MD. The reason I am posting this here is because there seem to be more open minds here at PM not blind followers. I haven't heard a Phil Hernon or any other respected member say that there are any absolutes in bodybuilding. Do these guys believe that "carbs are back" or is this just a view of a magazine publisher with his puppets?

Low carbs are good for inactive people with very slow metabolisms, people that work in a office ect or people who do only walking as a form of cardio. Low carbs also slow down your thyroid so need t3 to boost it up. You will also be running on low glycogen stores with low carbs so your muscles will look a lot smaller than if you was on carbs.

On the plus side, the diet is easy to do and you lose alot of water weight. I have done both and I have got very good results with the low carb diet but thats when I switched over to protein and veggies as I wasnt going anywhere with the protein and fat. In the end I looked like a swimmer or something. Dont forget that alot of Dave Pulmbos clients are on clen and t3 for a very long time and whenever they plateu, he just increases the dosages and increases the cardio. Anyone would lose lots of weight doing 3hrs of cardio a day with a shit load of drugs no matter what diet you do.

Thats funny because Farrah DOES use Keto in his diets when needed, he did for me anyways. I think Keto should be more of a tool rather than a total way to diet.

There isn't any significant scientific/medical data showing that a keto diet is superior in losing fat while maintaining muscle. Also no data showing its worse than a 40/40/20 diet either.

Personally I find that if I'm not going to be able to anally measure and weigh absolutely everything from every meal that a keto diet is easier to mess up than a 40/40/20 diet. A tablespoon of fat difference either way is a lot of calories difference, a tablespoon of rice difference is barely noticeable.

I found the Keto diet far less complicated because there are less variables. Its pro/fat. But I do better with carbs and slowly decreasing them as the diet progresses.

That is funny, and exactly the point of the thread. He doese see the time and place for the keto approach. If you read his articles and watch his MD segments, he makes is sound like Palumbo's style will destroy your physique. Maybe he'd rather promote the high card, less cardio method, which I can understand. Its just kind of sad that the athletes have to go out of their way to bash Dave because of their boss.

New method? You should use measuring cups and a food scale instead of your ass. That's the problem right there! :D

i aggree with you bro

bodybuilding shows are won and lost by people who have done every type of diet and training program...no two are identical....there are many roads that can be taken to reach a goal. P.S. Blechman's end is coming...RX is gonna own him one day...he's a poser.

I disagree. MD will continue to thrive.

Dave and John were MD...I will never buy that magazine again....they made MD a serious magazine...before Dave it was shit...and now its shit again.

I need to know the eating plan to get to 255lbs;):D But, again I think he would adjust intake accordingly based on where you are at certain points of your prep as he did with Brad. So many ways to do things, just need to experiment of what works best for you and that may change from prep to prep as your progress!

Shit, last year during my prep, I did not really lower carbs till around the 8 week mark, then drop them to very low and in a matter of a week or two my body changed for the better, but keto or not, find out what does the job for you by starting your prep enough weeks out to make needed adjustments OR just hire someone to tell you when to make the changes.

I know most of you will freak on me for this, but I like Dave...
The guy has a point in many things... , not saying everything he says is the way but...
I have done the keto "diet" and it worked for the purposes I need it to work, and no I did not had to do 3 hours of cardio a day and pop more of my candies. Cardio was important 5-6 times a week minimum 30 minutes. And I did not have to run my ass off for that period of time, my bpm was at 115-120, wich is very much a joke to handle.
I believe that Keto is a kick start for your goals, should not be on it for a long period of time.
It is possible to get lean on it keeping the muscle you have, once you have reached certain % of bf. slowly you start carbing for growth without gaining fat back.
So don.t hate me guys, It's just my tought:)

You make are making a lot of accusations and scientific claims...

Low carbs also slow down your thyroid so need t3 to boost it up. You will also be running on low glycogen stores with low carbs so your muscles will look a lot smaller than if you was on carbs.

Any scientific peer reviewed studies to back this claim?

Dave Pulmbos clients are on clen and t3 for a very long time and whenever they plateu, he just increases the dosages and increases the cardio. Anyone would lose lots of weight doing 3hrs of cardio a day with a shit load of drugs no matter what diet you do.

Any proof to back this up also? Were you a client of Dave's?

The keto diet works best for me. I have more energy when I drop the carbs and use fats for my energy. When I kept my carbs in, I had ravenous hunger at random times of day and would go hypo regardless of what type of carbs I ate. Do I flatten out when going keto? Yup, big time... but that's sort of the point. It doesn't matter what you look like on Wednesday, 5 weeks out from your show. When I eat a few sweet potatoes or downs a sushi buffet after being keto for a while I QUICKLY forget how terrible I thought I looked.

I also enjoy the complete lack of water retention. I was taking in around 3-4 grams of sea salt per day (I don't salt my food) in capsules. I was drinking 3 or more gallons of water per day... and my BP, which is naturally high (since I was 14) stays under control.

My strength stays good as well. I can train, eat, go to BJJ, and feel like a million bucks.

Not for everybody, but I'll be sticking to this fad the next time I diet. I can also probably get away with this more due to being larger person, so muscle atrophy is much slower than an average bodybuilder (along with fatloss).

There were some pretty bad times for MD before Dave was on board. IMO its still hanging on as the best bb print magazine, but the way Blechman delt with John and Dave showed his real side I guess. I still read it but its not as good. The covers with "carbs are back" and "keto diet risk" are as lame as it gets. George, Hany, and Charles Glass are very talented people but Dave and John were MD...for me.
