I disagree with what one of my best mates has said....but i genuinely didnt know what to say to him.

This is what he said word for word..

" Fruit is very poor mate, its full of fructose mate. It can only be processed in the liver and any additional energy from it is stored as adipose tissue and not muscle as it cannot be stored there."

I said, well personally i look leaner on fruit and feel better.

I just wanted something to say back to him....?

Tell him Mr.USA Ifbb pro Phil Hernon advocates the use of fruit.

Fruit and vegtables are my only source of carbs

good question. i tend to look leaner on fruits too but there are 2 points to address regarding that. First, these must be low GI fruits like apples, pears, nectarines, peaches, plums, grapefruits, etc. Second, I think the reason I appear leaner on them is because fruits are natural diuretics so it could be your friend is right in that they don't help with muscle glycogen as much as refilling liver glycogen but I heard eventually they do end up in the muscle. I know nutritionists who do not recommend any fruit and personally I was dieting down with only 3 pieces of fruit per week which was a large pear before my workouts and that seemed to work out. Maybe others can chime in.

Just say you believe fruit is the best choice for your goals...and that your goals are getting stronger...gaining muscle...getting leaner...being healthier.

That's exactly what I did say.
I also used Phil's name, but all he said..was that its just another pro with his own theory.

The only problem I have with all this fruit is bloody wind!! lol

what is bloody wind?

When I was on Phil's diet I shit like 6 times a day due to all the fruit and green veggies.

Six months ago, I began eating a mix of fresh fruit daily including bananas, grapes, blueberries, apples, pineapples, and strawberries. I started it because I heard through PM that most of Phil's clients get much of their carbs from fresh fruit. So.....now I'm in the best shape of my life and the definition I have now (and lack of fat) is about where I was when I was 21 (I'm now 33). Obviously other factors can weigh in here, but bottom line, fruit is good.

Fruits and vegetables are one of the best, most natural forms of carbohydrate there is. I have a hard time believing they would be inferior to...what? grains?

It's because you're mixing your fruit with concentrated protein, aka meat, that you are still suffering from gas.

You're inhibiting the digestion of the fruit (and the other components of the meal) and it is entering your bowels and fermenting causing "bloody wind".

Eat fruit alone as a meal and see how you feel. After a few days your guts will adjust and you shouldn't have that problem any more.

Here is a cool site for those that eat a lot of fruit.

Tells you what seasons are best and how to identify when its ripe.

Fruit Seasons

tell him to f*^& off. :)
i like to say,"well, if fruit is so bad then why do i look so good compared to you?":D i am really not that cocky.....

when you explain too much you look defensive you look insecure. offer no explaination except for how you look and feel.

people are amazed i ONLY do lateral raises for delts. i always say," does it appear i need to do more for them?"

amazed i only decline and dip for chest and again i say," does it look like its working?"

the rhetorical question usually shuts them up.

glad to see you are trying new things Medici

I think I need more fruits in my diet after seeing alot of you bros use them....I cant wait to work with Phil this year....Phil is just what I need to take me to the next level!!

I have experienced the same benefits from switching to fruits for carbs, but it is still something I wonder about.

Every nutritionist out there will tell you that fructose is inferior to glucose as a carb source, and yet I am getting leaner, bigger, and just feel all-around better.

Its the same thing with LBAs...on paper, it sounds like an inferior protein source, but their benefits cant be denied by anyone who's tried them.

What the hell is going on here??!?

Well,I am a bit biased as I work with mainly obese/unhealthy/diabetic patients so fruit is limited. But for a healthy/active bodybuilder fruits are a nutrition dense very healthy food and much better than the postworkout fast acting carb powders that are all the rage.

Now fructose does replenish liver glycogen first as that is a fact,BUT fructose isn't the only sugar in fruit AND unless you are on a keto type diet and very depleted ,Carbs(whatever sugar base or even very complex) will find their way to the muscle if and when needed.

correct me if im wrong.... but fruits arent 100% fructose most fruits have a combination of fructose + glucose + sucrose...each fruit has different ratio for the most part..for example pineapple has more sucrose than fructose or glucose

AND unless you are on a keto type diet and very depleted ,Carbs(whatever sugar base or even very complex) will find their way to the muscle if and when needed.

You must be joking

You must be joking

WTF joking about what? If you are severly glycogen depleted meaning the 400-600 mgs in the liver will also be depleted.Fruits would absolutely replenish them first, this is why you wouldn't use fruits for carb loading as your most optimal choice.Over time they would get the job done but other sources would be quicker.

I am getting the feeling you are just looking to argue as my post was not inflammatory or against the grain of what was being discussed.

Are you a dietician or nutritionist etc..?? I will gladly debate if your looking to even though this is not my area of expertise or where my work with patients is focused. Is this your area of expertise? trainer etc..? I am VERY open to learning..I pretty much just see you quoting others on the board.
