Vehicle title question.... need answers asap

So a while ago a buddy of mine gave me a motorcycle on a trade because he didnt like it and I had something he wanted.. So ive been sitting on it for a while, he gave me the title with the bike, but never signed anything... I have the top part of the title that you need to mail in and i have the bottom part that shows that I have the title... I want to get it put in my name but my buddy moved and there is NO WAY I can get a hold of him..

suggestions?

Call the DMV and ask them how to file for an abandoned vehicle title. Here in Az it is easy to get but where you are at I don't know. They will send a contact letter to the last known address for the previous title holder and if they don't get a response within a given time frame they will send you a title.

if it was a legit trade then sign your name as buyer and his as seller and go transfer it. only way you will get caught up is if he reall did not give it to you.

Most states require the title to be notarized now, so that may not work. Call the DMV and ask if they will require that before you do that.

Problem with this is that they will reissue the title in the name of the person registered to the vehicle.
