AUTO RUN TURNED OFF?

A friend of mine recently got back her computer from a family friend. Basically she loaned it to her for school work. But she has kids in the house. (yup bad idea) She now gets her PC back and bought a wireless router. When she tried to install the cd nothing happened. I am assuming the auto reader is turned off. She is running windows XP home edition. How can I check to see if this is the problem? Also, is there a button or something she can click on in order to reset everything back to factory settings? and how? She doesn't really need anything on the PC, so it all can get either wiped off or reset back to the original setting for everything. Thank you folks!

As for her running it manually, just tell her to double click My Computer and then double click the CDRom itself.
