Seems like everytime I try to watch something I get some "Error downloading CODEC" or "error requesting codec"

I understand all about codecs (compression/decompression) and I have Indeo installed but I still get the errors. Usually with .avi's. Mpeg and WMA and WMV seem fine.

Is there something I need? It's not like it says "You need to go to http:***** to get such and such a codec...

BTW... I downloaded installed the new IE7. I must say it's a huge improvement. ALthough I liked it just as much the first time when it was called Firefox (LOL)
One thing I'm curious about. Witht the old IE you had ..\%username%\My Documents\Local Settings\Temporary internet Files and Cookies were in a separate folder. Can some give me the new locations of

1. cookies
2. history
3. and internet cache (no more index.dat and four or more files?)

thanks bros

Ahh, codec hell huh? I put the necessary codecs on my ftp for ya in your directory. For the most popular decoding you will need one or more of the following:

AC3 Audio
DTS Audio
DivX Audio & Video
XviD (divx spelled backwards which is the open source version of DivX)

Install DivX AFTER XviD as sometimes XviD is a little behind in the technology sometimes and will play DivX movies but not as smooth or with as many features.

As for IE7 the temps & cookies are kept in the same spot.

You da man!

Just pay attention to the setups because they try to have you install other bullshit instead of just the codec itself like toolbars, etc.

I looked up the links to these codecs for everyone else.

DivX:
http://www.divx.com

DTS & AC3 (most stable package I know of):
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm

XviD:
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec

Try to stay away from All-In-One codec packs as they are simply compilations of these free codecs assembled by someone and I find that their installers corrupt the registry points for the codecs themselves. In other words, they sometimes link the wrong codec to the wrong type of movie which makes the movie look and sound like shit at best.

Xvid did the trick... I'm keeping the others in case. I don't like this "I agree to allow xxxxxxx to collect information not specific to .... blah blah blah"

I could shut down all traffic on that port but it's probably a common port.

Also, if you feel so inclined, VLC Media Player does some pretty incredible stuff like multicast, unicast, and plays files even when no other player including Windows Media Player will. You can get it here:
