There are two settings --normal and athlete. It says Athlete is for guys who do 1hr or more cardio/day or are under 10%. Normal
Is for everyone else.

My question is How accurate is it on each of these settings? If it's consistently off by a couple of percentage points in the same direction on the normal setting, that would be ok for me because I could still track whether I was losing fat (even if absolute bf percentage was wrong). But if it fluxuates--e.g., sometimes off by 2 %, other times by 3%--then it wouldn't help.

Should have been Tanita, not Tania. Autocorrect strikes again...

I found that scale to be extremely inaccurate.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen your pics, but based on what you've posted, I am assuming you used the athlete mode, is that right?

Are there any good ways to test body fat at home? I couldn't get good results from calipers. Probably wasn't doing it right, lol, but still I am hoping to find something better.

Yeah, a dunk tank would be the most accurate, I believe. And yes, I used athlete mode.

Thanks guys. I'll look into a dunk tank near me, but I was hoping to find something I could use on a weekly basis and I thought the tank method was kinda pricey.

In general any body fat tester that uses bioelectric impedance is going to be inaccurate. They fluctuate with bodily hydration, skin wetness and several other factors. I would just use the mirror unless you want a hard number in which case dunk tank would be great as suggested earlier.

I totally agree! All of them are inaccurate to some extend.

they can be off +/- 3 percent or so.
I have one, it seems to be about that.
the key is to use it the same time every day, under the same conditions.
this way u can take the readings over a 5 day period, say, and take the average.

Do you use the athlete mode or the normal mode? Thanks.
