I've heard of some of these tricks/science tips before stage. Never pushed the potassium levels that far does seem interesting

There's all sorts of tricks / tips out there and while this may be another viable one or work for some people, the important thing to remember is this:

1) No amount of tricks will make up for a lack of proper shredz prior to stepping on stage
2) The human body is very smart at countering tricks as it likes to maintain homeostasis
3) The shorter your "tricks" are the better they tend to work as a result of #2

Matt Porter (futurefreak) had some great info in that stop ruining your contest prep thread about this. He also had a flex article, but I'd asked him prior to my last contest about it and he said it needs slight modification on the sodium / water (IIRC, he said to keep it constant (both high, of course, instead of whatever the article suggests until the last part where you drop things). It worked for me and didn't use a diuretic. Easy as could be. Nasty dry.

The most interesting part about MPs suggestion is that it actually resembles about the right timeframe that you have to trick your body in. I hate to say it, but Layne Norton has a great informational video on how your body adjusts to these "tricks" etc. Good for those wanting to touch up on their human physiology.

2). While I'm sure this works as does 5 dozen other protocols , it seems like a bad idea to potassium load from a health aspect.

I've tried several different "tricks" for shows and absolutely nothing worked better than being stage ready 2 weeks out then coasting into the show drinking plenty of water up till midnight and having some carbs early that morning.
For me , I have to carb up on Tuesday night
