Snowing out and decided to share in hopes of helping someone like you all have helped me over the years. I am 49 yo, Ive been bodybuilding since 14, gear use since 19, competed for 9 years (87-96) as what would be now a super heavy. I was always the strongest and biggest guy in the gym. Anyway, healthy and mostly injury free until about 10 years ago. I fell and tore my quad, tore my tricep, rotator cuff surgery, broken ankle, hernia, hummm probably missed a couple too. Recently, the past few years suffering from herniated discs, until November I had a major flare up with sciatica and weakness in my quad torn leg. Told I have spinal stenosis with scoliosis and herniated discs, need double fusion surgery along with a laminectomy. I decided to hold off for now as my leg weakness in making me fall and unless I get this fixed, I will not be able to rehab from the back surgery if I am falling down all the time. Ive been feeling unhealthy, went for blood work and my levels are all messed up. I am leaking protein (3+) cholesterol is 320, HDL is 25, LDL is 232, BUN is 28, my AST and ALT has come down but still high at 69 and 78. I am on a low dose of BP meds so my pressure is mostly under control. I went to a renal/hypertension doc 4 years ago and was told I was leaking protein then, had a untrasound and told I should also have a biopsy (which I didn't do) as I was told because of my size they would have to cut my back to get the biopsy. I was also told 3 years ago (when I was trying to get approved for shoulder surgery) that I have a leaky heart valve. I admit, I have been very lax with follow up on my issues (not good) but I am feeling really old now and feel my gear use is coming to an end. I've only been off totally for about 10 weeks prior to this test but I am not too optimistic these numbers are just from the temporary raising of your levels from gear use. I need to follow up with my doc so I can get yelled at, make an appointment with a heart specialist for a long overdue followup and probably be put on cholesterol meds, and also go to the renal doctor for follow up.
I am certainly not trying to preach to anyone, I know I wouldn't have paid attention either when I was in my 20s, I was indestructable.
I loved lifting the heavy weights, clanging of the weights, bending the bar with the weights. I miss it and do not regret it but I know my body is worn down now from the years of that. I just told my wife after going out to shovel some of this snow from the blizzard, that I am nervous of the high cholesterol numbers that if she sees me on the ground to call the paramedics!
Thanks for letting me share
