Carl Weathers, who played nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" movies and taught golf in "Happy Gilmore," has died at the age of 76.

I didn’t mean it to sound like a “bodybuilder” but he was into fitness and I’m sure some of us enjoyed watching him when we were growing up. I suppose “idol” would have been more fitting.

Carl Weathers was definitely a big fitness influence on many, especially in the 80s. I put him right there alongside Arnold, Stallone, Lundgren etc.

He was awesome! His acting was great in every film I watched with him in it. Guy had a great build as well.

Happy Gilmore and the Rocky movies were my favorites, but he was in many others.

I mean I loved Dylan in Predator...Pretty cool in Rocky 3 too!

But 'hero' was an odd choice or words and the first thing I noticed and for some reason I knew who the op was posting about when I read the title.

edit: But I guess an 80s childhood hero...Wanting to look like him, part of the 80s juiced generation and whatever. So I guess so lol.

The Rocky movies and Rocky/Apollo Creed/Ivan drago's physiques i'm sure got a ton of people into fitness and training.


I would definitely consider him a hero in that regard.


He's one of the icons from that era of peak testosterone, masculinity and steroids, the awesome 80's.
