ARB's (ex: Telmisartan) + SGLT2 (ex: Empagliflozin/Jardiance) are god's gift to bodybuilders

IMO if someone is looking for health benefits they should take berberine over metformin. As you said there are other additional benefits you’ll get from it.

I know Dr. David Sinclair would argue that it’s beneficial for anti-aging, but he’s also not looking at it from a bodybuilding standpoint.
Sinclair has been scrutinized as of lately.

i run both year round
usually 2x500mg met and 25mg jardiance

Nice.

I had no idea what Acarbose was ….

Sounds like it might be useful for dieting due to the anorectic effect, some of which is via GLP-1.

By delaying the digestion of carbohydrates, Acarbose slows glucose absorption, resulting in a reduction of postprandial glucose blood concentrations. Acarbose may produce weight loss by increasing glucagon-like peptide-1.

Mechanism of Action. Acarbose is a complex oligosaccharide that acts as a competitive, reversible inhibitor of pancreatic alpha-amylase and membrane-bound intestinal alpha-glucoside hydrolase. Pancreatic alpha-amylase hydrolyzes complex carbohydrates to oligosaccharides in the small intestine.

Acarbose lowers your blood sugar by preventing the breakdown of starch into sugar. It may be used alone or in combination with another type of oral diabetes medicine called a sulfonylurea. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Mmmh i have to give another try to Jardiance then.... But last time I was so flat on it 😔

Acarbose really hit my interest... Seems better than Metformin but I have never seen anyone speaking about it.... Well for sure I was not well informed.

Thanks everyone for all the information

Started some Telmisartan after hearing about it for years and reading this thread, 40mg. BP can run higher up to 140/90

This stuff makes me feel lethargic, apathetic, disoriented, and dizzy/weak. Also all the symptoms of low blood pressure. Only variable I’ve changed over the last few days, and I have not felt good at all. Dropping it

It does lower aldosterone, so you may need to bump sodium on it

I'd try to hang on but drop to 20mg then go back up to 40mg. Aren't you doing a bunch of MMA training right now? As @aHarness said maybe bump your sodium up.

Worst case order some Carditone of Amazon. That should get you down 10-15 points with no sides.

I tried 20mg and still felt pretty bad, thanks for the suggestion though. Yes, I am doing a lot of MMA/BJJ, HIIT cardio, and I’m a firefighter who has been very busy in the southern heat lately so it may be the constant state of dehydration I’m in that’s causing the telmisartan to not react well. May give it another go when things slow down

I'd def toss the Carditone in there then.

Also give LMNT a try. I use 2 packets a day normally split across 4 drinks. 1/2 pack per 28o of water or so is good.

At your weight and size with that BP your body is likely just used to that range. The dehydration doesn’t help of course.

Being that close to range at your size I’d personally up Magnesium Glycinate, electrolytes and stick with lifestyle and supplements as @Reno911 suggested.

It should be all of our goals to be on as few meds as possible IMO.

You shouldn't mess with Acarbose unless you want to release a 10-sec fart every 3 minutes, for a weak glucose lowering effect. Seriously.
it's improving your microbiome and after a while, those sides seem to go away.

Murine models in a controlled environment do not readily translate to human. If the models possess humanized gnotobiotic diversity there's a possibility of hopeful extrapolation. Even then, all things are not equal.

Oral and Gut Microbes Can Inactivate an Antidiabetic Drug, Princeton Scientists Find

Princeton University researchers discovered that microbes living in the human digestive tract can inactivate the antidiabetic drug acarbose, which may affect the drug's efficacy in patients and impact on the microbiome.

Telmisartan reduced dementia risk compared to other ARB’s by 30%, signaling benefits beyond just blood pressure reduction.

Crazyyyy. I really shouldn’t be surprised at this point with all of these studies continuing to come out w the microbiome / guy ecosystem having an effect on so many things!

Good stuff Stewie !!
