Well the news is official, I have torn my left bicep, the distal bicep tendon, is either partially or fully torn. MRI has been done and am waiting to speak with a specialist to confirm the extent of the damage and if we need to do surgery (obviously if full tear surgery is a must). This I am sure brings up a few questions, especially as the power lifter… do I continue, how do I continue?
Damn right I continue. This is a sport and like any sport it has risks and injuries. Why do I love PL? Because it is a constant struggle and lifestyle filled with accomplishments and achievements. Nothing worth having comes easy and well we hit a bump, get over it. Push forward.
500lbs bench can still happen this year. Depending on the extent of the injury I could be healed in 8 weeks. What is 8 weeks in the big scheme of things? Absolutely nothing, heck if its 20 weeks I still am not overly concerned. This is time I can spend really focusing on my Squats and correcting my weaknesses in my Legs, Glutes, and Hamstrings.
What does this mean for Team Muscle Research? A pro bencher in recovery with a bigger squat, that’s right downtime means squat time. This is a perfect time for us to learn about dedication and perseverance, but that’s not all we will learn together. You are on this journey with me, we will be learning a LOT together
We will be learning about:
1) Dieting while injured
2) Team Muscle Research approved Supplementation
3) Recovery times and techniques
4) Unilateral training to preserve as much strength as possible
5) Leg training lots of leg training, we will be putting some massive gains on these legs
6) Reintroduction to fully body training
Team Muscle Research isn’t just about being instantly successful, we are about the journey. The triumph as a result of training and dedication, how bad do you want it !
We will see 500lbs bench, and now we will see it with an even bigger squat and stronger arms and many lessons learned in the process. So let’s embark on this journey together
