Blake Wendt at 17 Years Old Benches 500

Impressive…. Watching that barbell sink down into his sternum made me cringe though.

He’s got youth on his side still. Those ligaments, tendons, and muscle fiber are super forgiving now. Hope he continues and perfects his technique as he progresses.

17 years old and moving 500lbs…… Faaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Yeah Nichol’s son is definitely way more impressive. Controlled and just in wrist wraps
First kid is wearing the PR elbow wraps, not legal in powerlifting. Really just for instagram. They add about 40+ lbs to my bench when I wear them, especially if you drop the bar fast and get a rebound out of them. You can get even more lbs out of them if you have someone else wrap them for you

Still good weight for 17 though

Man I’ve literally NEVER even once tried to see how much I could lift. Not bench, not on squats, not on Dead’s, none of em…. I just never saw a point in trying to get a 1 rep PR.

Maybe it’s because I’m not anything spectacular as far as strength goes. I am impressed by these youngsters pushing this extreme weight though.

Personally I don’t see a point unless you’re pursuing strongman competitions or powerlifting competitions. I may be an outlier….

To each their own… Just hate to see someone injure their self and have a long set back just to say they can lift X amount of weight.

I could give that a green light.

I don’t know b. Looks pretty close, but not a done deal to me.

What I don’t see is a definite pause, not a touch and go from what I remember in powerlifting.

But again, a very fine line here, close.

Totally understandable. And certainly not the first time someone has called me out for incompetence when judging a lift. For a gym lift i would easily hit all three green lights myself. I did not watch it with the same intent as i did when i judged some meets for the USPF. But considering what i have seen pass including on here for as a bench press i can feel OK with giving him a pass. But that is why three are 2 other judges to keep things fair. I kind of wondered if his hips were actually down on the bench but as i said i only watched it once. Might have to go back and watch it again.

Just watched it again and it seems his feet weren't flat on the floor. So red light for sure.

Picky bastards 😉 (Judges)

Impressive lift but hes got really tight straps around his elbows. Its kind of like wearing a slingshot and claiming you bench 500.
