Yes. Some banks measure Hemoglobin others Hematocrit. The Red cross just does an Iron test in a solution. They are all over the map on the readings they will allow. 17.5 for one another 16.5 hemoglobin. 55-60 for Crit. A doctor can get you a script to donate and they won't look at those number. The mobile donation spots often are looser.

Just make sure you are well hydrated when doing it - supposedly the number increase when you are dehydrated. If you are too high maybe take a few days off and consume more water and hit up another one.

I actually had to go to my doctor and get a referral. Next time I might just get the items needed and have my gf do it as she's done the phlebotomy course.

I've tried everything under the sun to get hydrated and it doesn't move much. Best bet is to go to a mobile donation or Red Cross. You have to hunt around and maybe get rejected a couple of times. If your really high, you'll want to find a couple of donation spots. PITA

I've never had a problem. I just got every 3 months or so. Make it a normal routine. Help yourself and others. Now they just call me to set up my next appt. when I become eligible again.

You can throw a clot if it's too high, donating temporarily increases the risk of clot, even though it lowers the risk after time.

They can deny for too high or too low. Mine is always around 17-17.5.
