Biceps been sore for a few days so I haven't been in the gym. Needed to do back so I figured I'd just do shrugs, rear delts, and rack deads, thinking these wouldnt place any strain on the bicep. Welp, pyramided up in weight on rack deads and the moment I lifted the bar my bicep immediately ripped right off the bone at the tendon. Heard it loudly crunch and tear. On my way into the doctor now to see if they can do surgery.

Funny enough it didn't hurt even one bit. Felt and heard it tear. Dropped the weight and stumbled backwards out of shock. But complete numbness. Only now, about 30 minutes after it happened, is it starting to hurt.

Adrenaline is something!!!! Hope all heals well and speedy!

Did it let go at the shoulder or the bottom elbow (distal) . I’ve blown out in both areas and had to have each repaired. Once had the shoulder total bicep tear and once at the distal elbow total blowout repair. I ask because the protocols and surgery options are different. Distal is always a surgery for complete rupture .

I had the distal( elbow ) bicep repaired with what’s known as the button. This was like 15 years ago and the doc said it’s even stronger after the repair then anatomically. I’ve loaded the bicep up with tremendous weight since the repair and it’s been 100%. Knock on wood. It’s a “pretty easy “ recovery as well once you get out of the sling. Don’t sweat it and good luck.

I blew my pec and bicep at the shoulder in a bench press meet. Had them repaired at the same time.

Good luck to the op

Wow damn, brother. Hope you can get it fixed quick but the recovery will be a bitch however.

Were you doing mixed grip by chance? That can cause a tear on the underhanded arm.

Awe hell!! I’ve had a lingering bicep pain I’ve been working around.. I’m now going to chill out on anything that can pull the tendon.

Good luck on your recovery, bud!

Great idea, don't chance it trying deads or doing anything heavy if it hurts for some reason. If something hurts it may be a warning sign that damage has occurred and best to heed that warning.

If the pain doesn't go away maybe a good idea to get it checked out.

get well soon bro, I'm sorry to hear of the injury...maybe you can get on a BPC/TB-5 peptide healing regimen, I mean it can't hurt...

Did you have an over/under grip on the rack deads?

Best of luck with recovery.

I would insist on it getting repaired even if they say it will recover mostly full functionality. The torn bicep is pretty much done growing when torn and will likely shrivel up more and more with time and seemingly retract even more = Dorian Yates arm. I tore my bicep a year ago, had to wait 12 weeks for surgery but it was still a success. Pretty easy recovery but took some time as I was "careful" with the loads as I thought you should be - the doc said at 12 weeks (or was it 16, I forget) you should load it maximally, the goal being 100% recovery of functionality and strength. "Just avoid yanking motions." Spoke to a friend who had a button surgery and he claimed he was basically back 100% in 12 weeks but said he was very aggressive with therapy. He was on growth and steroids.
