I am typically at the gym 3x per week at 5:30am when it
opens. The line for bench presses starts at that time. I
don’t see how they can do that ‘cold’. I just shudder and
shake my head.
I have found that I need ~ 30 minutes of cardio (burning
10 cal per min.) as a warm up. I can no longer hit the
weights straight away. Too old for that now. I need to get
a good sweat going and cardio (bike or rowing) does that
for me.
Having worked out at all hours, day and night, hitting it
early, once I got used to it, is best for me. I worked out
after work for many years and I always felt that work
got the best of me. Being self-employed now, I can
work out at any time I want but I like to get up and get
it over with and on with my day, otherwise I procrastinate
and windup regretting it.
So now I’m up at 4:45am, have a cup of coffee and drive
to the gym, do my cardio, my weights for ~1hr, a bit of
stretching then hot tub, shower, and am back home ~8am,
ready to start the day. I live close to my gym, 10 minutes
away, so it is very convenient.
On the rare occasion I go to the gym in the afternoon,
I am good with that, do not notice any strength difference,
but the gym is more crowded and I do not like that. Rising
and working out early filters out a bunch of people and
the ones that remain are typically white collar types, not
terrible serious, and they have learned to stay out of my
way
