I know most likely a few of you are on these so just wanted some feedback.

My cholesterol and bp are higher than dr likes to see so he wants me to get on Amlodopine and Lipitor.
Wanted to cycle but I guess thats on hold for now.
Im in the 40s.

Thanks.

if health is more important to you then size i would get things under control first before i ventured forth. do yo do any aerobics? i find that helps both issues a lot.

wish I can find a doc to prescribe me some hgh

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it lowers testosterone. That's why I stopped using it. I find if I do cardio and keep my body weight down to a realistic level my bp is good. I've had high bp my whole adult life. It runs in my family. Do your half hour of cardio everyday and eat clean. Keep starches and sodium down to avoid water retention.

Kaladryn once said 30-60 minutes of moderately intense cardio every day is virtually guaranteed to keep blood pressure down.

To help your cholesterol naturally you should only eat lean meats. No sausage, no ground beef. If you are going to eat red meat don't eat it often and make sure its very lean if you are going to eat it. Try to stick to chicken and turkey.

My cholesterol is a little on the high side and it always has been. Im only 33 so im not on meds for it but i try to eat right to keep it in check. The doc prescribes me one shot of test a week and arimidex for an anti estrogen so he checks my cholesterol when he takes my blood. Because of my age i only get the test for 12 weeks out of the year, im not on full time HRT.

I know a few guys who love to go on statins while blasting because it helps to keep their cholesterol in check.... Just saying....

And they use cialis daily to keep their bp down....

Sent from my iPP using Tapatrash

I have read so much that suggests statins are absolutely horrible and virtually nobody should be on them. A nurse tried to give me one after I had surgery and I said hell no. The surgeon even confirmed I was right to turn it down.

Grass fed ground beef (I like the 90% beef) shouldn't hurt cholesterol levels but the rest of what you say is true.

I have been on Amlodipine for five years and never knew that.

Yeah dont get me wrong, you can eat some beef. Just make smart decisions, and dont eat burgers all the time. Obviously 90% lean grass fed is good, and the regular 80% lean stuff is not going to help your cholesterol.

I just eat fish like a hungry shark, the 1# best bodybuilding protein source imo. rarely eat red mea or egg yolks. thats helped my cholesterol levels go down personally without changing anything else(please spare me the dietry choclestrol dosent effect you lecture :rolleyes:)

I'm going to get these few things down to where they need to be on my own.

First I've heard about this with CCB's, but why would it matter if it lowers your test levels if you're taking exogenous testosterone? It's not going to effect that.

Take the Amlodipine, you'll be fine. Calcium channel blockers are very effective, yet safe drugs. It's crazy not to take a drug that will most likely help get your BP under control. The Lipitor, however don't touch it. Statins are bad news. Look for other ways to get your cholesterol under control.

It's been a while but I had to reply, my doctor suggested statins a few years back, at first I said no way, then I saw that commercial with the guy who invented the artificial heart and I gave Lipitor a try. I guess it took a few weeks to build up in my system but one morning I went into the gym and just did a warm up set of rows. By the time I hot the water fountain my whole back seized up. I was practically bed ridden for a few weeks then all I could do was run. I even got an e-mail for a class action lawsuit against Lipitor. Bottom line I would stay away at all costs. I'd rather eat nothing but nuts and berries if it came to that.

LOL not surprising at all, some of these prescription drugs are crazy. Crazy bad for you !!! With all the stuff most of us take, you know that we arent afraid to take stuff, but some of these drugs that are supposed to heal things create huge problems.

I feel like something like cholesterol or BP can be handled with diet and exercise. I mean most of us eat good and do a little cardio anyway. If you are sick and need antibiotics then by all means go for it, but if you can get your Cholesterol down naturally then dont take drugs.

Almost all classes of antihypertensive drugs lower endogenous testosterone. As well as Statins.

Some beta-blockers also inactivate the deiodinase enzyme(s) responsible for converting T4 to T3. Therefore potentially causing hypothyroidism.

I, like you, Medic. If a antihypertensive drug is needed, per physicians request. I wouldn't hesitate taking it. Regardless of what a single rat study showed on lowering endogenous testosterone. Plus, Its a mute point if ones taking exogenous testosterone.

Cardio doesn't work for everyone on reduction of BP. It's recently been discovered that sodium cell membranes can have tiny holes in them, leaching sodium penetrating the cell, actively causing hypertension. Another cause can be associated with undiagnosed or uncontrolled OAS. Therefore resistance to BP medication.

Yea I definitely dont want to go that route w the T levels.

Are you using injectable test or on a TRT program? Bc if so, then like Stewie and I said, it won't drag you down. Even if it did I would much rather have a normal BP than worrying about it dropping test down a few points. I've been on Verapamil for a few years now which is also a CCB and I haven't noticed any decrease in sex drive, lack of erection strength, or any other symptoms related to low T.

At least try out the Amlodipine for a few months and see how it goes before strictly going off other people's experiences. I'm not saying their opinion doesn't matter, but everyone reacts differently, my friend. I'm not sure how high your BP is, but I'd hate to see you have renal failure or cardiovascular issues in the future bc you decided not to use a very safe and effective drug. Obviously going by it the all natural route is the best idea, but until you get control of it, just use the meds as prescribed by your physician. No disrespect to any members, but your doctors are doctors for a reason and they have WAY more experience than any of us combined. Assuming you have a great doc.
