How many calories does 1 pound of muscle burn daily? And how many calories does a pound of fat burn daily? My research is saying 35 extra calories burned each day for each new pound of muscle. Seems like a lot!?

I wouldn't focus on much of the calories muscle burns as much as how much the muscle will help you with insulin sensitivity , and nutrient partitioning.

Is there a current study proving 1 pound of muscle only burns 6 calories per day? I read two studies- one performed at tuft university. Both studies concluded 35 calories burned for each additional pound of muscle.

What do you veterans think about this?

Can't put s number on it imo. If your carrying muscle over your generic limit than your daily calorie intake is exponentially higher. Add 30l lb of muscle with gear and tons of food and tell me you only need an extra 180 calories av day to maintain it. These studies arnt done on large bodybuilders built on test tren gh etc

The number is going to be very different from one person to the next, probably several times higher or lower in some cases. You can't just look at the biochemical factors either (like metabolism, body temp, activity level) you have to look at the neurological factors also, like fidgeting, squirming around while sitting, etc. Some scientist is studying these "micro-movements" that are related to metabolism. Are they a cause or an effect is the question, but either way they still burn calories.

If anyone knows that study on micro-movements, post it, I can't find it.

The figure that they relate to in those studies is resting muscle. Yes sitting watching TV and doing nothing. Not active exercising muscle. A muscle at rest is how your base line metabolic rate is calculated. They then add activity to this. Your base line is what calories are required for your body to survive with no changes being made, not gaining nor losing. Once you add exercise then the stakes go up. How far they go up depends on training intensity, duration and stress placed on the muscle at the time (weights). Heavy weight training burns a relatively large amount of calories in a short time and then burns more while trying to recover and repair.
