homegrown vegetables.

Thanks for the idea mate. I use Marigolds and a garlic dust type product. Worst part with the dust is you need to get the dust on the underside of the leaves which is a bit of a pain

nice...ill keep the garlic dust thing in mind,
i dont like usin chemicals...lol...on my vegetables.
i just saw your from australia on another thread.
cant imagine the type of crazy insects ya got down there.

I love to grow a garden and really enjoy all the vegetables. I grow green beans, potatos, squash, cucumbers, tomatos, onions, okra, and pumpkins(for the kids). I just bought last year a nice craftsman tiller that made it a lot easier. It is a lot of work but worth it for the fresh vegies.

I've always considered this, compared to the poorly adhered to "natural" products readily available at the grocery stores. How does it pan out, in terms of economic feasibility?

i come out ahead...doesnt matter if i grow from seeds or buy seedlings(i do both).make my own compost, and buy a little mushroom compost, mix em together and turn the soil(by hand with a shovel).depending on how your billed for water would be the only real expense.
start small.its a skill like anything else.oh yeah tomato cages.but they last a few years...i have had a couple tomato plants bend the shit out of thier cages but if that happens you should be gettin a good yield from those plants.
i fell like the jalepenos i grow are priceless...i let em ripen a bit so they are red and green...so good.i also pickle and can my peppers so i can eat em all year.

This sounds exciting; freshness, nutrition, and an opportunity to save money. Absolutely genius.

It is a little cheaper for me but the best part is you know that no pesticides etc... have been used. The food has so much more flavour.
I've also just set up a chicken coop for 3 chickens for eggs, can't wait for them to start producing. They should yield about 15-18 eggs per week

Yeah I won't use chemicals either. The garlic dust is 100% organic.
Yep I'm from Australia, yep we do have some crazy animals and insects out here but I'm in suburbia so it's not too bad. Lol it's a common misconception though :D

awesome.i love chickens.hell...i just want one for a pet.im in the suburbs also
and there is a code against havin chickens.fresh eggs are so different than the ones you get in the supermarket.

I used/grow a ton of pistachos. My dad kinda took over since Im never home and since they are such of high value I can trade them for virtually anything. Everyone loves pistachos!:headbang:

Where I am and most councils throughout Australia have no laws against it but a lot of them do against having roosters. I can't have roosters.
Chickens are pretty cool as pets too. I only have 3 but I bought a coop for them and then built an enclosure for them so they are safe at night, but most of the time during the day they just roam in my backyard.
They aren't anywhere near as messy as what I thought they would either. My dog is messier. I love homegrown eggs. I can't wait till they start laying. Should be about 5 weeks
