Why cravings before period?

Does any one know the scientific reason why women have cravings before their period?

The theory is that the body becomes more sensitive to insulin due to the hormone changes but all the medical studies I have looked at shows that blood glucose actuall stays stable during this time.

Also what would be the best way to control these cravings, especially for someone on a strict diet to lose fat?

I never had food cravings before I got my period, I just craved sex.

Will power is the only way I know how to control cravings, her being aware it is going to happen so she is mentally ready to fight it off.

Erm my alter ego comes out when it's girlie time. She has to have chocolate! Or people may die! Ha ha. But seriously i am slightly demonic. I am truely grateful i have a very patient boyfriend, and over 80% chocolate is considered a good antioxidant. After a week i an back to little miss nice again. X

thanks for the info it's always better when it's simplified easier to get my head round! I'm getting my bloods done to test my hormone levels as i think i am unbalanced. I think my body copes and looks better without extra hormones from my coil so i think it's gonna have to go! X
