Hello ladies,
I have my first show coming up in October and I'm wondering which way to roll and so I figured I'd ask you...

When backstage, do you strut your stuff or hide the goods? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Sometimes you dont know what backstage is like... my first show everyone was chillin together and pretty cool, pump up area and changing area were the same place so you could stay covered. 2nd show was different. they had a changing area then when figure was up we had to only grab what we needed and head to the pump up room where they corralled us so we were in our suits only and the 3rd show had such a small backstage room that i touched up in the bathroom and spent most of the time clothed in the audience.

Plus, if you keep covered, there is less of a chance for an accident to happen so you don't end up with a runny tan or missing shoes.

LKG, it is pretty much the same for us as well. I usually stay in my track pants and top until I have to pump up and get oil on. This way you stay warm, and helps keep the veins up. I never worry about either showing my physique to all the bros backstage or keeping covered, it can go either way. I can remember many shows where we Males and females were all together in one big room. Like 1 big family really. We were all cool with each other and chatting away, loads of fun.

Once you get to the show, you'll be able to get a feel for what to do. There is nothing wrong with covering up until your ready. What sucks is to get all pumped and oiled up and then have to sit around and wait for hours. This happened to us at the night show for the last show I did. They keep changing the order around, so no one was really sure who would be next. Be sure and stick close enough to hear what's going on with the line up. I crossed over to the master class at this show, and there was only one competitor in that class who didn't cross over. She was sitting in the audience watching and did hear that the master class was going on-stage early that originally posted. We had to wait for some to go find her.

Don't take anything of value backstage. It's just best to be safe than sorry. Pack a gym bag or backpack with everything you'll need including food. (some will let you take a cooler backstage. contact the promoter to find out if it's ok or not.)

maybe i'm too trusting. i always just leave my stuff and roam around.

i've tried to stay covered up, but end up too anxious and excited to get on stage and tend to bounce around in the posing suit. eager, sometimes to a fault.

what i have noticed is that if you are friendly and kind, you will make friends backstage & can have a great time with the other competitors. we're all in the same boat. we've all done the work. it's out of our hands at that point.

keep up with the progress of the show so you will have an idea of when you need to be ready. ask the expediters for estimates on when you need to get oiled/pumped as often as you need to...it's their job to know that and to keep you informed.

as it is...

we both stay covered at the gym in baggy clothes. there are some of our compeditors that train at our gym so its kinda a mind game thing. i remember when everyone used to wear all the crazy bbing clothes to the shows. then one day the shadow dorian yates showed up in a baggy track suit. when he peeled down last min, everyone freaked out. since then.....its baggy track suits all the way around. many of the girls wear sweat/track suits which are enought to look good but still hide the goods. guess its personal preference. but i do think no matter what just try and enjoy everything from the hight check right through to the overal awards. its a lot of work and sacrafice. the day is a serious day to game up.....but always enjoy. its gonna be great!!!

I like St Ives scrubs. You can find them a Walmart or any local store. They are not very expense and seem to do just as good of a job as the expensive stuff.
