...and down and down it goes. Sadly, because there was a chance for a while.

...the underground "sport" of the century. Drugs running rampant...diuretics, synthol, insulin and rat piss...anything to do it...mass for mass sake, the death of the artistic, symmetric physique...distended abs to the point of jokery...female groupies with the faces of angels, and the morals of alleycats...muscle worship, nudity, and prostitution by men who should know better for the lean green to get bigger and bigger...worthless magazines - 90% ads, 10% fluff and 100% BS...monumental egotists with inferiority complexes...smarmy, smiling, mumbo-jumbo-palumbo "trainers" - a talk full of dreams and a gym bag full of dope...lying, defying, and crying...tatoo-mania to the the point of self-mutilation...Daddy keeps his drugs next to the babies formula...insanity to the point of no return.

Steve Reeves rolls in his grave.

And your point would be???

Maybe it's just me

I know this might not be popular but I kind of agree with his post. I think Johnny Yuma should elaborate a little more. Certainly even the hardest core badasses can't disagree 100% with what he says.

I could care less as BB as a sport. I don't want to get big. I want to be lean, heathy and well. Research, drugs in moderation, and love of personal BB have driven me, especially with being 37 now. The monsters on the BB scene are not what I would want to look like at all. People change as they grow.

For one...it is a general swipe at anyone who trains...or has a desire to gain size, get stronger, and have more self confidence.

For one...and this made me laugh a little, was the "Daddy keeps his drugs next to the babies formula". WTF...if daddy were jacked like that, ya think he would have kids?

I have four children, and I'll tell ya...I'm about as far away from any of the BS that was printed in that post.

The same could be posted for musicians, and a host of other occupations where fans will lift up their "heroes".

It is spring time today where I live...so I think I let this go for now and spend some time with my family...you know, going for a walk, listen to them laugh and play. Oh...right after I move my supps from next to the formula.

i may be wrong, but to me it reads like a poem. the point of view it takes may not be one we like but just taking it as art i liked it. maybe its poking fun at the way were viewed. unless the OP explains his intent i dont think we can look at it in any other light than you would take it if you heard it at one of those stand up poetry places. either way its well written.

Maybe I missed his intent but posting that on a BB forum is like joining a Mustang forum and making a thread about how the Camaro is the greatest car ever.

While I agree in some ways as I to preferred the bodybuilders of the past in comparison to todays champs. The thing is I can only say that about a few of them and not a wide sweeping statement as you made yours out to be.
personally I look at Pro's Like Coleman and think jesus that guy has got it down in every aspect I also think no way I would want to be that large.
Yet looking at the up and coming people I can say that.
I wonder is the sport to be blamed or perhaps the judges or maybe its just the competitors desire to advance that causes them to push for new levels of greatness.
Personally myself I look to the bodybuilders of old when I seek visual motivation.
Sergio Oliva, Lee Labrada, Frank zane Athletes like that have the physiques that I someday hope to mimic

Guys come on

Aeliop,
i just think its ridiculous to clump everyone together like that. PLENTY of people not even close to fitting that description. i like to think i have balance in my life.
i certainly dont fit that description. many of us are good family men and perhaps this sport can be a bit taxing on the body but so can being an average couch potatoe.
-STEELE

Steele my quote was something to the affect of "kind of" agree and even the hardest of us (by the way I think we both fall into that catagory) couldn't disagree completely. Lastly I gave the poster an opportunity to further elaborate his post before he gets jumped on and smashed. I actually thought this was a great debate starter as what is right and wrong with todays bodybuilding. I could be wrong but I think Steele that you and not just you is taking his post a little to personally. Yes Steele you are very good bodybuilder but an even better family man and citizen no aurguing that.

Iron back it down a bit how in the hell is this a swipe at anyone who trains. I don't think he is even talking about guys who don't compete. I think e is speaking of not even competition but the upper elite of competition. I laud and applaud you for spending time with your family, training all that, just don't take things so personally big man.

Back down??? My brother in iron, do you know even what he is talking about or meaning in his post? You say you don't think he means this or that...but you didn't write the post, so your "speculation" is no different than mine. We're just a little on opposing side of the fence. :D

Bro...I'm not taking anything personally...really I'm not. I have a great life, and am grateful for everything I have...I certainly don't deserve it. I guess I get "ticked" when it "seems" as though people take a broad swipe at folks who take this sport seriously. I certainly can agree on some points...most is over the top.

All love bro...not a hater ;)

its generally a bizzare post, maybe posted to get different reactions

I agree with a good portion of that post. Especially the part about the magazines. Steve Reeves had a better physique than anyone in the sport today.

This thread is mis-named. You should add the word "Pro" to the beginning of it. Many of us use in a reasonable and safe way and still strive for the Steve Reeves look. :)

Bizarre???

The Mr. O contestants are bizarre...why don't they have bodybuilding on the major networks anymore? Why are bodybuilders dropping dead when they're much, much too young?

I'm not talking about the guy who wants to look like Frank Zane 30 years ago...but every competitor at the NPC Nationals and USA are vying for that pro card...which means Mr. Olympia consideration.

...look how Branch Warren looked when he was an amateur...and take a look now! WTF!!

If the BB community wants to remain on the fringe they are doing everthing possible to do just that.

Strange that you didn't name steroids and growth hormone in your list...

It must just be the things you don't use that are BADDDDDD.
