I have Chondromalacia on both knee's and the knee cap is tracking outward, and the Doc tells me that there is no more squats and leg presses in my future, I am currently taking a antinflamitory and resting my knees and doing the prescribed excerises, I am totally frustrated and by not being able to do legs, I am 6'6" and 280 and I have lost some leg size since told to stop doing legs and feel like I am walking aroun on chop sticks..lol.. Any body else with this problem and what did you do to compensate..

can you do leg extentions?

If chondromalacia patella is identified in the early stages of inflammation, conservative treatment can be effective. Conservative treatment includes modification of training activities, modalities, patellar taping/strapping techniques, quadriceps strengthening, NSAID's, and rest. The patient must modify his/her workouts to eliminate those activites which aggrevate the symptoms. Swimming provides an excellent cardiovascular workout alternative in a non-weightbearing environment. Icing to reduce inflammation has been shown effective as have anti-inflammatory drugs. Various taping and strapping techniques can provide pain relief, but do not act to facilitate healing of the injury. Quadriceps strengthening may be the most important treatment once the pain has calmed down. The muscular imbalance may be the direct cause of the patellar malalignment in the first place and proper strengthening of the appropriate muscles can assist realignment of the patella and decrease or elimiate symptoms over time. Orthotic inserts can provide relief if the symptoms result from tibial torsion or femoral anteversion. Often, the body simply needs the removal of the repetitive injury that rest provides to heal itself.

Bro I had that in one of my knees. I recived a cotisone injection and it helped alot. I went to PT for about 6 weeks also. You may not have to stop working legs forever the way your doc has stated if you get the inflamation under control and correct muscle imbalances in the leg if it is the cause. My PT was a powerlifter and treats alsot of atheletes that have had it. A majority can go back to squats and leg presses with modification once the innflamation subsides. You can only go just above parallel with squats and cannot go all the way down on leg press, chest to the knees. his wa smy experience if its just starte dothering you most likel your pronosis is good with proper treatment.

Yea I've been doing the exersices to correct the imbalance and taking my anti-inflammatory meds and seems to be helping, just good news to here that when its all healed and muscle balance is back there is a chance to squat and leg press again.

Alflutop has helped my knees. I am getting ready for the Emerald Cup in 9 weeks. I went thru a 21 day blitz of it and man has it helped. I am squatting 495 for 10 and leg pressing 1140. My menisicus is level four so I know what you are talking about.

I have that problem too. My knee surgeon will not let me touch leg extensions. He says those are the worse for the knees. He says I can squat and leg press, but I have to go light! Chondromalacia a very tough problem to get around. Do you have a lot of years of deep squats in your history?

I dont have a latteral meniscus anymore in my right knee the Docs removed it.

My PT agrees with leg extensions as being the worse. He says just do the second half of the movement the halfway(mid) to extension (finish) and you should be ok.

The rest of the movement isnt suppose to do a whole alot for the quads and is the part that really damages the knees.

Aflutop works ok. I have found Adequan works much better.

Yea my Doc does not want me to do extensions, he says there really bad for the knees and so did my PT years ago, its a closed chain movement and leg press and squat are a open chain movement, they are actualy more natural for the body because you push through the bottoms of your feet and not your chin's.
