Diverticulitis

Hey guys,
I recently was diagnosed with diverticulitis. They originally thought it was my prostate, but after a CT scan they said I have diverticulitis. Anybody else have this? Anything I should be aware of in terms of gear use? thanks.
I am starting antibiotics now to get rid of infection.

I have diverticulitis and can't comment on gear, but you reallt need to watch your diet, seeds, nuts and uncooked veggies kill me.

I had MAJOR surgery because of it. Watch your diet, especially when you have a flair-up. Do a search on the condition and you will find a lot of info.

isnt this more diet/medicated controlled than anything?

I was having terrible abdominal pains, went to the hospital, was diagnosed with a ruptured colon due to diverticulitis. Had major surgery, had to wear a colostomy bag for a year, had another major surgery to have the bag removed and everything put back to normal. Now I have a really ugly scar on my belly. All because I was addicted to cocaine and didn't hardly eat at all for a year.

If they catch it in time they can treat it with antibiotics I believe. I let mine go too long. My symptoms were really bad abdominal pains in the lower part of my abdomin, I believe it was the lower left quadrant.

Like jonnypro said, it's typically left lower quadrant pain. This is because there really isnt anything else in that area of that area of abdomen that would cause pain (spleen is upper, appendex is right lower, gallbladder is right upper). Food typically sits the longest in the left side of the colon too, so that increased time of contact makes it more common for diverticulitis to form. Of course you can get diverticulitis on the right side too, colonoscopy or even ct really confirms the diagnosis. If it gets bad, and causes inflammation or irritation of the stomach wall then the pain can be more generalized and spread.

My pain is lower left and right abdomen.The pain is very bad at times I mean very bad.

2bigfred - good thing you are seeing a doc. You never want to mess around with bad abdominal pain because you never know what's brewing in there. Could be anything from bad gas to colon cancer..
