Have bloodclot in right lower leg from knee to ankle for 5wks now. Hugely painful at first but apparently the body has found alternate circulation and discomfort is almost gone. Taking Eliquis and waiting for clot to clear. Had 2nd ultrasound and nothings changed. Crap! Is this permanent? Not much input from doc.

Not much input from the doc? You need to tell your doctor that you want a detailed explanation of how serious this is along the different avenues of treatment. If he or she can't give you that then see another specialist!

Go to hospital thanks

Did you doctor get his MD from a butcher shop?

He should be leading the charge on this; both input and treatment wise. Change docs asap if you don't get better answers; remember you pay them with your insurance and premiums.

Id think they would put you in the hospital with a heparin drip by now, or at least try coumadin. With a clot in a coronary artery they use heparin.

5 weeks is a long time. If that breaks off you could have a pulmonary embolism. That can be deadly.

Expect to be on that blood thinner for a while. I really don't know if the clot is supposed to dissolve quickly or over a long time. I would not worry though. If they sent you home from your visit they think you are ok then. Call the doc and leave a message and they will get back to you. If they don't then find another doctor or doctor's office.

I think the danger depends on how big the clot is and what vessel its in. It must be in a small branch leading to the larger veins of the leg.

Any new developments ? Do you have any idea why the clot formed? I'm wondering if you got a DNA test for clotting disorders. Emeric on here had a DVT, hes got factor 5. I had a heart attack and have factor 2 prothrombin disorder.

How's your hemoglobin/ hematocrit? Etc

After 6 wks and 2nd ultrasound, clot is unchanged. Blocked up 14" of vein from knee to ankle. It has found alternate circulation so pain is gone and I'm able to walk with minor discomfort. Still no update from doc after 2nd ultrasound. Already going to another doc who hopefully will be a little more forthright. Leg is still slightly swollen and showing a fair amount of edema. When I push my finger into my shin, it leaves a dent about 1/2" deep. Kinda like memory foam. Effin gross. Legs have totally shrunk from lack of gym time. This better resolve itself soon cause I'm wasting fast. I've lost about 12lbs of muscle mass so far and its still falling off as I write. About a years worth of work gone. Hard to get, easy to lose. Waah! Not fair. I' 65 and have been lifting since 14. Taking 14mg/day test cyp under docs care and normally I'm fairly jacked for an old fart. I believe taking test at my age has an increased risk for blood clots. If this isn't resolved, might have to retire the iron. Hate to even think of that. Its always been a major part of my life.

Your doctors I guess arent concerned about the clot breaking lose from that vein and traveling up to your lungs? Ive never had a DVT, but know its a risk. One of our great mods on here had a DVT and it went up to his lungs to form a PE. He passed away. Please be careful. Not sure, but exercise could possibly break it lose?

I would not take more then 5mg , till the cloth clears. you don`t have to retire from working out, actually exercise helps better blood circulation, stop consuming sugar, fry foods, corn and drink lots of water, I had a few times superficial thrombosis on my lower part of my legs, and pulmonary embolism, I am off any medication for over 13 years.

ive seen it take months to resolve. Keep taking the meds to prevent propagation. Follow up with your Dr and see what they say. Be aware of the symptoms of a PE.

Is this your first DVT? How did you get it? These are very commonly seen in medicine and several other members already mentioned the length of time it takes for a DVT to completely reside with anticoagulant tx and the possible complications that can arise due to lack of information. That being said, it's probably time to grill your "doc" on the coagulation cascade. Good luck.

I would never take medical advice from someone unable to figure out who the OP is. Sorry bro.

I know we all make mistakes from time-to-time. Although, I will say Pissbrain is actually quite a phenomenal physician. We chit-chat quite frequently.

You are the member I respect the most here Stewie. You have have helped me in the past more than you are aware. If you say jump I'll ask how high and if you vouch for your friend then he is cool with me. I have worked with plenty of phenomenal physicians in which you have to point them in the right direction to do their thing then again if you go in the wrong room with a patient and go over another person's chart even the best physician looks like a fool.

I appreciate your amiable sentiments, the respect is mutual :)

As with that, I can relate to and understand the similitude you've illustrated.

Wheatdog, its been another week. Any luck with that clot clearing up? How are you? I hope you are well.

Went to a specialist and got the skinny on how this should work out. Keep taking the Eliquis and the clot should be reduced by the body in 3-4 mos. He said since I haven't had any PE issues, I can go back to the gym. I'm limited by what causes pain in the right calf so I can do all of my routines except stair stepper and calf raises. I used to be a competitive swimmer so I'll head back to the pool for my cardio. Be a hoot to see if I can get my 200M butterfly back. First workout 2 days ago. Legs. I'm sore as hell since I haven't been working out for about 3 mos now. Legs especially killing me right now. Able to walk without discomfort so I can do everyday activities. Still no idea about the cause. Bad Karma?

Did you get tested for blood clotting problems? DNA you can test for factors 2 and 5 I know. There are others too I believe. i was 38 when I developed a big clot in a coronary artery. Im just worried that you might have a disorder and it it isnt diagnosed this will happen again to you.
