Just wondering if anyone has experience in managing a gym, I have been offered a position and would like some feedback, such as, job security and potential earnings and so on.... Thanks
Have you checked what is the advancement from there? I have had 2 friends that landed management positons (power house and worl's) later opeened their own gyms or were given opportunities to open their own like franchisee's. But that was a long time ago.
With most larger health clubs it comes down to production. As a manager you'll find a portion of pay salary, but usually other commissions, bonuses and buckets. Produce or get out. It's unfortunate that a large part of the industry is so short sighted that they miss the big picture, quality service. It's about taking care of your people and they'll take care of you. Customers and staff.

It's not just in America, but in all countries the business focus is on profits and growth. The difference is that American customers are more discriminating buyers than in other countries, so customer loyalty is very rare.
I live in Vancouver Canada and worked at Golds Gym UBC. HATED it! I was offered to be the manager of the personal training department. Personally it SUCKED!
WEll it all depends on who owns the place....what kind of volume you can do...marketing, sales, and increasing profits are you #1 goals. The more money you make for the owners, the more money you should be able to put into your pocket.
Expect to be salary and work 10 to 12 hour days while you learn. Show them you are willing to work hard, and they should repay you with quarterly bonuses depending on how you increase membership sales. WOrk on pushing supplements out the door...if you can increase sales in that department, they should give you a bonus on that too.
All I can say is WORK YOUR ASS OFF and show them you are legit.
Pay all depends on what area you are in...I am sure a NY manager is going to make more than a manager in the burbs in NORTH DAKOTA.
