I'm in a dilemma. I'm about to finish up 5 years of college with two different BS degrees, one in Management Information Systems and another in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Originally I was strictly MIS, but because I hated it so much I added on LSCM as well and hoped I would enjoy it. Well as it turns out I dont give a shit about either of these degrees. I may be able to tolerate a couple positions in LSCM, but my passion lies in fitness and nutrition. Now, I'm thinking there may be something I could look into in the fitness industry that involves business but I'm not sure. Its too late for more classes, I'm in a deep money pit as it is.

I would love to hear any and all suggestions from anyone with ideas for something I could get into that involves our lifestyle? I originally got into these classes before I was so serious about bodybuilding, and now I extremely regret not getting out when I could. There's quite a bit of money to be made in MIS/LSCM, but I would rather enjoy my life and make a little less if the opportunity comes available.

I hear ya bro. I am in IT 12 years now.... and it just aint my thing. I wish I could find a way to make the same kind of money in the fitness industry. You mihgt look into Helth/wellness managemnet. The industry is growing quickly. I wish my company had a position like Director of Associate Wellness or something like that.
Good luck bro

You picked your direction, now your not happy? Do you have a job in the feild of your degrees? Maybe you should try it first. 5 years, huh? Suck it up, life is only going to get harder after your 5 years vacation.
And yes I'm in college, after starting off in the real world and busting my ass the hard way for well over a decade before I thought about college.
College is like eating cake after eating sh*t for so long. Damn college is easy!!

No need to start preaching about the real world. I know what working long weeks are like doing hard labor. My dad owned his own construction company for years, so I've put in plenty of work for him during the summers growing up. Oh and last summer I worked at a water pollution control plant working in and around human shit every day. Guess what? I'd much rather have a 40 hour work week than worry about school.

You seem to be a good example of why I'm asking what I'm asking. I'd rather start out doing what I enjoy than being bitter about the past 10 years of my life.

Thanks knucklehed, I will definitely look into this.

What exactly do you do for IT work?

Start by getting certified to train and maybe applying for some jobs at gyms in management, advertising, and so on but also train. I know several guys who are managers of gyms and train high school athletes and make up to 80k-100k a year.

I know a buddy that trains 5 kids in a group 3 times a week for 1 hour and it cost the parents $350 a month. So just from that one training group he makes over 1500 tax free. You can pick up baseball players, football athletes and also make a killing off the old ladies that have to have someone train them lol.

40 hours? what made you think I was talking 40 hours, that's kids stuff. I'm just like every other guy that had to work to finally get what others are given. I know how easy the guys a the pollution control plant have it so don't make it out like you have to bust your ass at that job. I worked for my Dad since I was 12 til I was 17, and that's not like the real world either.
Trust me bro, you saying you went to college for 5 years and now to decide you don't like it says enough. And since I've supported a wife, child, house payment, car payment, equipment payments, advertisement budget, , & and many other responibilities, I know college is easy. But if you have had the same responibilites, maybe you know something I don't.

Management information Systems? Logistics and Supply Management?? I think its obvious what you should do! Open an UGL!!!!
You could become an "internet source", and your training in logistical management would mean SUPER LOW T/A FOR ALL!
Just don't put everyone's name into a Database using your MIS training... Turns out bad when they raid your house. I'm pretty sure this is how Donald Trump got his start... Steroid money into Real-Esate. Try not to do any lame TV shows when you're rich and famous! Good luck!

I am a small cog in a huge machine. My title is Sr.Systems Engineer. I design support messaging, and collaboration systems for 42,000 users in a company that employs 250,00 people. I am glad to have a job, but I have zero passion for what I do day to day.

I will graduate next year with my masters in CIS, and I also can't see myself doing it for the rest of my life... SO I have decided to start with my personal training certs this coming Saturday, and if all goes well maybe go into sports injuries/medicine etc... It's not always easy, but you have to do something that you love.

You're not alone bro. I'm in the same boat. I was out of school for 5 years and went back almost 2 years ago. I'm finally graduating in the end of May. Strongly considering grad school but I'm afraid it will cost me 100k, a few years, & still might not land me a good job after. I too would love to work in fitness/ gym management. I've considered opening a gym but not so sure as many have failed.

When are you graduating?? Send me a pm let me know what you end up doing bro. We're in very similar positions, maybe we could throw eachother some pointers as things progress

either way good luck dude

Are you an outside of the box thinker? Do you like controlling your own fate as much as possible? If so then you may just be the kind of person who should own their business. I own four retail nutrition stores out here in Az and although the economy is tough and you have to work twice as hard to survive I wouldn't have it any other way. I work a lot and my mind is on my business pretty much 24/7 but I love what I do, I have great employee's, my wife works with me, and I make a great living going to work in a T shirt:D

I don't have great advice on what path to take but I do suggest following your passion rather than money. If you are passionate and creative the money will be there.

Agree...the Wellness industry is growing. Companies are finally realizing that a healthy company is a productive company and saves on health costs in the long run, keeps the companies young so to speak. WELLCOA has tons of information on the wellness field, check it out.

LOL I got a good laugh out of this.

Which certifications are you looking into?

apply for masters or PHD in the field you want or maybe become a certified trainer
