What have you done to it Mer? Maybe we can help you get it better a little quicker.

Aw, I'm sorry that's still bugging you! :(

I've finally finished getting my shoulder back to full use after hurting it last summer.

On and off lower back issues...dealing.

Thanks Phoenix. :) I'm glad you are getting better

OF, well we: Dave, Wildmontanan (buddy of ours and long time lurker here!) and I were doing back. We did wide grip, over-handed chins, hammer rows, rear delt machine then Wildmontana and I did biceps together. I curled the 40lbs dumbbells, on my second set for 5 or 6 I can't remember. I'm not sure if I did it then or if it was a combination of everything we did that day. I did the most chin-ups at that weight ever. I think I was 146lbs or so  and I got 20-something...22 I think (?). [I think so, cause then Wildmontana's son came along and did 30! And I was thinking, "Dang, that was 8 more than me!"] Then did the most I have on the hammer rows: 3 plates each side. I used strap on both exercises. My wrist didn't hurt at all during or after the workout. I hurt the next morning. BAD. I'm thinking I need to lighten up on the weights for a while. :(

Lynx,

Where exactly in your wrist does it hurt? Carpels? metacarpels? is there any shooting pain? is there any numbness or tingleing? does there feel like any edema around the area, redness, bruising or swelling? For right now..submerging your whole hand and forarm into cold water for about ten seconds..take out..do again..is going to help decrease any excess inflamation..If you can get a hold of any Arnica (its a topical homeopathic topical anti-inflammatory) massage it around your wrist and forarm..i love arnica..suprisingly it works incredible for bruises and swelling..but if it keeps bothering you..or gets worse..i would def see about getting a MRI to see if there is any soft tissue damage or maybe an xray...

Keep us posted hun..Hope you feel better!!!

Yes this is good advice. I would say you have strained it due to overuse on that day. I am a big fan of cold immersion therapy for injured areas of the body. I usually go for about ten minutes and then let it warm on its' own. It really knocks the swelling and inflammation down fast. Horse linament works well and is very strong. It soaks in fast and reallt goes deep. Get a wrist support for now and wear that while training and through the day to stop overusing it.

Carpels, with dull pain. No numbness or tingling. No swelling/redness/bruising. Nothing but irritation. :D

I have wrist wraps and I wrap them both when doing most upper body exercises. It's my left hand and I'm right handed so I don't usually use it for much. Mostly holding the plate under my chin to catch any stray bites that might otherwise escape. :D

I have a little tendonitis in my right elbow from heavy benching. Not enough to keep me from doing them, but I have to remember to keep stretching it thoughout the week to keep it from getting worse.

The only other pain right now is the bruises I got from the new bench shirt. I have a hard time putting on a regular shirt now!

But I got 240 down to 2 boards, and probably will get the full rep next time I try it.

LMAO...........................stray bites huh! You are just trying to keep JT away from your plate so you need to keep it close!!

I would go with A. J. 's recommendation and try not to aggrevate it any further. See if it will come good on its' own first. I think it is just strained and should correct itself with some careful training and cold water therapy. Just get some anti-inflammatories and take them to keep the inflammation down.

Hey Lynx,

I had similar pain as what you described never really knew what it was from but at the time I was really pushing my curl weight up with the straight bar though... anyway those tennis elbow strap thingy's worked well turned out it was nerve pain, radial or ulnar cant remember. Now I use the straps and dont get the pain any longer.

Nerve pain eh?! I use wraps and I can still feel it, but not the elbow straps.

I saw a doc on campus yesterday and she wants me to see the ortho that comes on Wednesdays. She thinks it's unusual that it's still hurting this far from the time of initial injury. I have an appointment with him next week. Unfortunately I have an exam that day as well, so I might have to reschedule. We'll see.

I have a muscle behind my right shoulder blade that gets so irritated. It sometimes will pinch so bad I have to stop my lift or IW has to grab the bar, bench, reverse tricep on the smyth, or anything I do over my head will cause it to be irritate. It will cause irritation right up into my neck. I have to get into a massage therapist and maybe a chiropractor to see what's going on back there. It is always there and it gets annoying.

CC, If you see a chiro..please make sure they soft tissue manipulation..I'm not a huge fan of them doing skeletal manipulation alone with out working with the fascia or muscle..I wish you were closer to massachusetts..i would help you in a second..

Where your an athlete..be proactive and get it checked out asap..at least to determine what you have to do to be pain free..good luck!

Lynx,

How did you make out with that appt?

Lynx,

How did you make out with that appt?

It's this Wednesday if I can make it. I have an exam that day so I might want to do some last minute studying. Thanks for asking A.J. :)

Hmmm injuries... let's see. I think I've pulled just about every one of my muscles at one point or another... I've been training for 20 yrs now.

Sprain my ankle doing step aerobics and had to be carried down the stairs to someone's car. The gym manager took me to the hospital. Thankfully it wasn't broken, but it was pretty embarrassing. At least the guy carrying was a hunk!

Pulled both shoulders at different times. Smashed plenty for fingers racking weights... Then a number of broken finger nails, so I've lost count.

Last year training for my competition I pulled my hip-flexor in my quad and shoulder again. Then I also had tendonitis in my right elbow. This seems to be reoccurring injury that I'm afraid is become chronic. This was from a car accident in high school. The car flipped over and landed on my right arm. It crushed my upper arm (bicep). My worst injury was also from this accident... it broke my neck (5 & 6th vertebra) and crush the disc. They took a piece of my hip bone to replace the disc and fused the vertebras together.

My mom told me after my surgery that she always worried about my brother breaking his neck playing football and never dreamed it would be me. lol

Well, I went to the dr (Ortho) and looks like I did something to a piece of cartilage in my wrist. This explains it better than I can:

"The triangular cartilage, or as it is better known, the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is a small piece of cartilage and ligaments on the little-finger side of the wrist, located just past the end of the forearm bone (ulna).

Cartilage is a tough rubbery tissue that acts as a cushion for the joint. The ligaments are strong bands of tissue that attach the cartilage to bones in the wrist. The ligaments or cartilage can be torn during a wrist injury. The TFCC is the major ligamentous stabilizer of the joint between the ends of the arm bone and the small bones of the wrist on the little finger side."

He thinks that I have inflammation and wants me to take 2 Aleve twice a day for 7-10 days.

Aleve is good stuff. I take it for my tendonitis. Did he say how long it take for it to heal? 7-10 days doesn't sound long enough. It can take a tendon 8-10 weeks.

Hope you start feeling better!

Did he do an MRI? or was it his educated guess..

He wants to see how the Aleve helps with the inflammation if at all. He wants a follow up after the 7-10 day period.

He didn't do an MRI, he was turning my wrist around and putting pressure in certain areas.
"Does this hurt?"
"Nope."
"How about when I do this?"
"No."
"Does this cause any discomfort?"
"Not really."
"How about this?"
"No."

For a while I was thinking, "Hey cool, I must have a pretty good pain tolerance." :D
Then:
"How does this feel?"
"WHOOP, that hurt!" Lol!
