If I want the benefits of Insulin but do not want to use real insulin, is there any good mimmicers on the market?

what about glucophage. I hear its like insulin but doesnt increase both muscle and fat stores, just fat stores. Thats what I heard though. Maybe someone can clear it up/

Yardrock, there is a good article about metformin (glucophage) in the articles forum. check it out. It should answer all your ?'s.

Glucophage/metformin is an insulin sinsetizer (sp), not a mimicker. It's great for losing fat and making the muscles full.

Insulin mimickers are bad news as they give you the same effects/symptoms as insulin but they are very unpredictable. You will still get the same sides and insulin receptor downregulation as using straight insulin but you won't have any of the control that you have over using insulin shots.

So do you think glucophage is better than insulin? Can it make you fat like insulin can, especially if your not a ecotomorph? Thanks

It's not better than insulin as insuling will make you huge. Glucophage won't.
But glucophage won't make you fat at all.

BIG A, can you tell me how Metformin should be cycled. When and how much should I take? What shouls I eat and /or drink before and after taking?
Any other supps. to take with.

can large amounts of RALA take care of this/

i have always found a huge difference between "is" and "almost-like"...be careful and keep asking questions...sugar levels is a dangerous place to go sometimes....good luck

If you do a search for metformin a lot will come up as it has been duscussed many times.

Generally, I suggest to be on it year round and to have 500mg after a large carb meal, 1,000mg after a HUGE carb meal and 1,500mg after eating all you can at PizzaHut and you fill like puking.

DON'T use metformin and insulin at the same time as the the metformin will make the insulin unpredictable.

How much can you take a day? Can Metformin make you diabetic? Would you take 500mg after your post workout protein/carb drink? Should you take after every carb meal?
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Props to Big A!

His description fits my experiences to a T...

I used Metformin (850 mg) post workout with my first meal of the day and I felt incredibly pumped and my muscles had that "full" feeling. No fat at all, but also bear in mind that I was not eating balls-to-the wall either as it was for Spring, Summer use.

I used Slin and got considerably bigger in terms of muscle size, and I was not on a very high dose at all. I worked up to 10 units post workout w/ a high-carb meal. However, I tend to gain fat easily and because my diet was not up to par, I gained more fat than I would have liked.

If you're new to playing the "blood-sugar" side of things, start w/ Metformin/Glucophage. If you have grandparents around, grab some of theirs!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It lasts 4 hours in your system, so obviously don't overlap doses, so that is how you can judge how many times a day you can take it (allow time for the absorbtion as well).

Metformin will prevent diabetis and it's the treatment for type II diabetis.

I see no point in using it with the post workout meal as you won't get fat from that meal anyway.

So it can be used year round?

???? Diff. between Metformin RX, Metformin HCL and Metformin/Rosiglitazone????

METFORMIN (GLUCOPHAGE) FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

Metformin, sold under the trade name Glucophage, is used to treat diabetes, but several recent papers show that it also helps non-diabetics to lose weight by reducing hunger (1).

You may be overweight because your body makes too much insulin, especially if your store your fat primarily in your belly. When you eat, your blood sugar level rises. The higher it rises, the more insulin your pancreas releases. Insulin makes you fat by acting on your brain to make you hungry, your liver to manufacture fat, and the fat cells in your belly to fill with fat. So the treatment for this type of obesity is to avoid foods that cause the highest rise in blood sugar and to take medications that prevent your blood sugar levels from rising too high. Avoid bakery products, pastas and all foods made from flour, fruit juices and everything with added sugar. Eat fruits and root vegetables such as potatoes only with meals.

After you eat, sugar goes from your intestines into your bloodstream, and then immediately into your liver. Then your liver releases sugar back into your bloodstream to cause your blood sugar level to rise. To keep blood sugar levels from rising too high, your pancreas release insulin into your bloodstream. Insulin makes you hungry all the time and causes your liver to convert extra calories to fat and it constricts arteries to cause heart attacks. You need insulin to keep blood sugar levels from rising too high to cause diabetes, nerve damage, heart attacks, strokes and kidney damage. Glucophage reduces sugar release from your liver to prevents blood sugar levels from rising too high, so your body doesn't need to produce as much insulin that makes you hungry and causes your liver to make fat (3,13,14).

Glucophage lowers insulin levels (4), prevents many of the side effects of diabetes and can be used by people who want to lose weight. However, Glucophage is not effective when your blood is acidic from excess lactic acid and recent research shows that exercise, which raises lactic acid, does not cause blood acid levels to rise enough to reduce Glucophage's benefits (5). Glucophage, itself, does not raise blood lactate levels and is therefore considerably safer than doctors originally thought. Since Glucophage lowers insulin, diabetics should be placed on Glucophage to lower their requirements for all other medications used to treat diabetes (6).

A common cause of obesity in women is called polycystic ovary syndrome, which is caused by having high blood levels of insulin. Glucophage helps these women to lose weight (7-12). See report # 8124 in the Women's Health section.

Glucophage is a safe medication that prevents blood sugar levels from rising too high, but you defeat its effects by taking foods that cause rapid rises in blood sugar levels. So taking Glucophage after eating two bagels will not help you to lose weight. I prescribe 500 mg of Glucophage to be taken a few minutes before you eat, usually three times a day. You should not take it if you have kidney disease, heart failure or any medical condition that could make your blood acidic. There are many drugs that cannot be taken with Glucophage, so check with your doctor about all your medications. If you have nausea or diarrhea, take half a pill (250 mg) in the middle of a meal once a day, and if you then have no symptoms, try to work up to one half a pill before each meal
