Lost a friend Friday!

I just found out that my best friend from highschool died from an apparent overdose friday night... This guy was really smart and came from a really good family... His dad is a preacher and is one of the nicest men I have ever known... Anyway, as we all did in highschool, we drank, smoked a little, but it never got too outta hand... Well after graduation my friend started hanging around the wrong people and soon ended up getting into the rec drug thing... Started with cocaine and moved on to meth... He pulled a good stint in prison, but had since gotten out and started trying to change his life... He got married and had a kid... Things were going really well for him! I was really happy that he had straightened out and living his life... Then his wife decided to leave and take the kid and I guess it just pushed him over the edge... The story is that it was suicide... He was one of the nicest, most intelligent guys I have ever known, but rec drugs ruined his life!! I have a little boy and it scares the hell out of me to know that he will be faced with temptation from that shit!! This guy had everything going for him, and it took it all away!! Please pray for his family! Heaven knows his father and mother need it!! This is truly one of the saddest days in my life!!

Swerve....I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. There is nothing worse in life than losing someone close to you. My heart goes out to you and all his friends and family.

So Sorry..

Your friend is in my thoughts and prayers as well. Speaking from my own experience, you can not help someone with a substance abuse problem unless they truly want the help. Moreover, no one can really understand addiction or explain it unless they lived it. It took me a long time and cost me nearly everything before I got clean. I am fortunate I made it out. Returning to the passion of my youth, bodybuilding, helped more than I can explain. One of my regrets is that my recovery came to late for me to reach out to one of my best friends growing up, and years later the best training partner I ever had, Paul Demayo. May your friend rest in peace bro and as far as your kid(s) go, just talk to them. I have two of my own and they lost their mother in 2002 from an OD. Be open and honest with them and let them feel your love and it will all be good.

Thanks for the prayers guys!! It means alot! Rooster, I know you didn't mean anything by it, but bro don't make religion an issue here... The guy grew up in a religious home, but not a fanatical one. His father is very well educated (PhD) as well as his mother... Had the nicest two parents anyone could have asked for... The problem was that he had an addictive personality and couldn't say no... Again, thank you for your prayers!! I just wish I could have helped him in some way!

Im praying for you as well. It is a tough time I know from experience. Recreation drugs are a true Death machine. I too, have family who suffer from a lot of addiction. Like I said prayers are going out.
